The fact that Sony thought they had an allstar line up of characters was just sad though.

Although, I guess Nintendo fans can't say much after how much Fire Emblem padding the last game got.

All I ever saw were videos, but I remember thinking it was funny as fuck that they had to get 3rd party characters and had to use Good and Evil Cole to pad out the roster.

If they did this now that they have Crash (and potentially Spyro) back in house (so to speak) it could have done better...they just don't have enough iconic characters...

that and a game like this simply will be harder to be a success for other companies because all the dorks will just say "YEA WHATEVER SMASH IS BETTER YOU BITERS!"...they'll never let it succeed because they'll only want Smash to be the one...

It reminded me of a dollar store bootleg tbqh, some of the characters were so fucking random like Dante and the Bioshock Robot.

That game is the single reason why I never take PS4 fanboys that mention their exclusives seriously.

Can anyone even remember half the characters in the game that were actual Sony exclusives? If they made it today who would the additions even be? Horizon girl, new Infamous guy, the guy from The Order and Joel from TLoU?

Just because a console doesn't have a character with the personality of a Splatoon character doesn't mean it didn't have a great game....

...that's not what i said. people do care about them. example...the last of us was a great game that people care about. you can put those characters in this game to represent Sony but it would still feel empty....because its a cartoonish beat em up and consoles aren't catering towards mascots or cartoonish personalities anymore...nintendo is really the only one which is why a game like smash works great for them. they have the characters who have the personalities that work with the game. enough of this fanboy bull shit man lol....its time to grow up and move past that "my console is better than yours!" mentality...

Even ignoring the crappy roster it absolutely blows my mind that they made such a soulless game that relies on fan service to succeed.

The menus had powerpoint backgrounds. Some of the characters were used for marketing! Seriously the Bioshock stage doesn't even resemble the final version of Bioshock Infinite.

It wasn't terrible, but it suffered from some major flaws:

>can only score KOs with special moves. Certain characters are either OP or useless based only on one move. Should have either copied Smash wholesale or used health bars or some other point system.

>too cheap to use the characters people liked. The only reason they would use Raiden or Donte is because they want to sell the newer games. Where was Snake? Where was Cloud? Where were any of the PS1 mascots? Sony isn't poor. The roster was a lazy commercial for other games.

I had it for the Vita. Cant remember how, think it was a bundle or something. The gameplay wasnt bad, and it could be fun. But gosh it was just a huge miss and you can tell Sony was either completely clueless or didn't care.

But hey. They put Kat in there. Props for trying to get a Gravity Rush franchise past the first game I guess. :/

What ruined the game was the way to get kills. The song was also annoying after the first 3 times you hear it.

A big issue that Sony has with a game like this is that they don't really have that many long lasting franchises to get nostalgic over.

They don't own most of their PS1 stuff. The stuff they do own from back then isn't really around anymore.

What is their longest lasting franchise at this point? Ratchet and Clank? God of War? I don't know if they have that same level of nostalgia or fan service potential that Smash Bros characters have.

Nobody is getting excited that Jak and Daxter is fighting with Nathan Drake.

The only other companies who can get away with it are probably Capcom and Sega.

Microsoft probably had the right idea with Killer Instinct. Make a fighting game and then add a bunch of Microsoft exclusive characters to bring people into it.

Aloy probably could fit in Smash Bros fine.

But most PlayStation characters wouldn't. They either wouldn't fit the game (any Naughty Dog game after Jak and Daxter) or aren't overly popular (like the Tearaway character).

I mean, it's easy to say "oh, people care" but nobody really does until Sony decides to bring something back.

That seemed to be the case with Twisted Metal. Nobody gave a crap until Sony decided to bring it back, and even then we're kidding ourselves if we think Twisted Metal is a huge system seller.
