Current Events > Ubuntu Software Updater really sucks. So does the Gnome store.

I've just gotten to the point where if the Updater comes up I close it and apt-get the updates myself so I can clean everything. For some reason that still leaves a bunch of junk in the boot partition so I have to run the Ubuntu tweak janitor as well. And I've been unable to install anything from software center since it changed to the Gnome store. Sucks. Wish I knew how to just make an auto update script that would also run janitor for me.

Updating & upgrading from the terminal just seems easier anyway.
Same with downloading new software. But if you're set on a GUI thing then Synaptic is a great alternative to any specific software center.

Also Ubuntu proper's iteration of GNOME is stupid.

I'm not set on it, like I said I'd just use a script if I knew how. I know it's possible but I don't know how to do it. I've heard synaptic is good but I haven't tried it.

Like a script that automates it to the point that it just does it all on its own, without any input on your part? That'd be kinda nifty. I've gotten mine down to just:
F12 to open Yakuake
Tap the up arrow a couple times to "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade"
Then let it do its thing. Not automatic but it's fast. I bet someone's made a program that's already in the repo which fully automates it.

I do the same. I use Guake. F12 is a crappy shortcut.

Or maybe that's only a thing you can do when using KDE, iunno. That's the only DE I use.

I changed it to F10. F12 interferes with a few things, like Browsers and Steam.

Do you use Steam just for Linux-native games? Or do you have something like PlayOnLinux going on to play other stuff?

I want to look into doing that but I want to get a better laptop first. >-> Right now I just keep my gaming shit on a separate W7 partition, which somehow gets more unstable and slow every time I use it.

I used to play games on Linux but I decided I wanted a larger selection so I moved to windows. The games I play the most I think are all available on Linux though. My gaming PC is Windows 10.
