I know fuckall about cars. Thanks for bearing with me in this probably dumb post.

Anyways, I hate my car and it sucks but I really shouldn't cuz it's a 2007 Subaru Outback with less than 100,000 miles. So it's got a lot of life left, but shit keeps popping up.

So I live in Minnesota. It's cold as fuck. I know I probably should, but I don't let it heat up most of the time when I drive it, which frankly is fairly rare.

But so anyways, the issue that concerns me is I recently had all the break pads changed. On really cold days, I'm used to the brakes being a bit more sluggish than normal while the lines warm up and start working properly. But yesterday when I was driving to work, I had to make a stop at a store to pick some stuff up. Car had been running for like 5-10 minutes. Go into store, get my shit, leave. Get back in car, and my work is only a few blocks away from said store. There's 1 stop sign on the route. Car stops fine at stop sign. Get to the intersection where I need to turn right to get to work, and all of a sudden the brakes just completely go out. I applied a normal amount of pressure to stop safely and like... nothing happened. So I slam the brake pedal to the floor and it still barely works, but I came to a stop without hitting the car in front of me.

That has never happened before. I was scared to get in my car upon leaving work, fearing it may happen again and I'd slam into something. But the brakes worked just fine on the trip back.

Soooo... Any ideas why they just shit the bed once and only once? Should I be concerned?

Nothing. Normally there's like... good feedback. I pressed the brake pedal with the usual amount of force it takes to stop the car in a timely manner and it felt like a sponge. That's when I floored the brake pedal, and it still barely made a difference.

I think it's disc brakes front and rear?

idk man I know nothing about cars.

All I know is it's never happened before and it happened one time AFTER the car had already been running for a bit.
