With ice hockey you have padding, but with skating there is no protection. One wrong fall and you're out of the game for awhile.

It doesn't seem to hurt as much to fall on ice as it would another hard surface (IE: concrete). I'm not really sure why.

Maybe I'm just imagining it and it's a combination of other factors (the cold/wearing extra clothing, the exercise aspect, etc).
