My escrow has $549.25/month for tax. My statement after my refinance doesn't have any property tax disbursements. My statement for my original mortgage has a $3,295 disbursement. My statement from 2016 I paid $5400 in tax. So I'm missing $2k+ in tax here somewhere. Anyone have a guess what is going on?

Edit - nvm, misread your first sentence. Does the new mortgage specify how it will pay out the tax escrow? E.g. directly to your property tax treasurer, or to you?

yeah sounds like your refi took resp for property tax off the lender and put it on you

check your refi costs. if you did not have to make a prepayment of property tax to keep the escrow acct positive at all times, that is the case

I have property tax in my escrow payments for my new mortgage. Washington does 2 disbursements a year from what I understand, refi was done 10/3, has over $3k in current escrow with no disbursements, far too large for it to not include property taxes. I want to say taxes are done like February and August?

Ugggh. Maybe I just need to call them tomorrow.

Are you able to check online in your state/county to see property tax payments?

Total billed: $ 6,591.00
Balance: $0.00

So now the question: If I claim that amount which is different than my 1098 does that increase my odds of audit?

I mean... I'd claim what the county was paid, but I'd also want to find out how they were paid.

I haven't done a refi so really not familiar with a lot of that.
