Cpu isn't overly hot (like 20 C max when idle)

Should I reapply thermal paste? Is it because of the bios? Wtf

Except those put your GPU on blast, not your CPU.

Nah, I changed usb ports and it worked to get me into the bios. I'm guessing the 3.0 ports don't work immediately or something

Well, everything looked fine. The cpu wasn't ever getting hot, it's just that the fan was being really loud.

I bought some thermal paste remover and will probably try to clean out the pc this next weekend. Last time a cleaned/dusted the pc was like 7 months ago, so dust shouldn't be an issue.

Don't think I did anything wrong the thermal paste the first time I installed it, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Well, my cpu, on average, is running a little hotter than before. Maybe a problem with heat build up. I'll check it out once my thermal paste remover gets here

1) 20C is a fine temperature. Your system wont grt below ambient air temp.

Yeah, 20 is fine, and that's what it was when I checked it earlier. But after turning the pc on again, I checked it and it was at like 40c.

Zangulus posted...
2) 7 months is more than enough time for dust to build up in the fan.
3) 7 months is enough time for thermal paste to get used up and need replacement

True, so I'll probably clean it out today before the game starts

What percentage of usage was your CPU at for 40C? Thats a good temp.

It was a lower percentage I don't exactly remember though. Less than 25 I think

The thing is that my cpu gets to about 45 max, even while playing my most demanding games.

This was 40c idle, which has never happened before, AND the fan was going bonkers. It has never spun that fast before, ever.

Cleaned it out, put on new thermal paste.

Fan is still going ballistic . Even reset the bios back to its factory settings (don't even think I changed anything).

Cpu is hovering around 10-20 percent usage.

Temp is around 20-30 when idle.

Welp, I updated windows and so far the fan seems to be in check lol.

Unrelated question, but I kinda want to get a ssd. I want my OS on my ssd. Can I just do a clean install of windows to my ssd while keeping all of the files I have on the hdd?

Well, that was short lived. The fan went full blast again. I wonder if it's a problem with the mobo or if it's a problem with the fan itself.

Whatever it is, it's super frustrating

Partition your HDD, move your files to the partition, copy windows to the SSD, delete the HDD windows partition and expand your storage partition to fill the HDD.

Well, I think I fixed it the other day. My heat sink may have gotten loose or something, so I tightened it.

Or maybe it was the fact that I reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of windows.

As a side note, I finally got an ssd, which is one of the best decisions I've made in awhile. So much faster
