For me, historical accuracy comes down to how realistic the story is.

If you're trying to be true to life, then nobody should force you to feature a black governor with a white wife in 1882 Texas. But if you're telling a western story of the Lone Ranger / Wild Wild West variety, or you're in a medieval Europe full of dragons and wizards, then including people of color or featuring women and minorities in favorable positions should not break your immersion.

"I'm okay with a busty redheaded witch whose father was a dragon, but I know for a fact that there were no black people present in this time period!"

yeah. I agree with that. in this case from what I'm seeing about the game it's meant to be historically accurate. no dragons or wizards are far as I can tell (I might be wrong). so it's a bit silly of them imo to expect black people randomly walking around 15th century bohemia

I'm convinced most liberals nowadays believe that every white person in the Deep South owned a small army of black people.

Almost couldn't be further from the truth, but that's the idea they seem to push, especially when they say "America was built on the backs of black slaves!"

It has to do with the mentality of the leftists we're discussing - the ones that want to push "diversity" and "inclusion" absolutely everywhere.

These are the same people who say there's no work for minorities in Hollywood, despite minority races being represented in Hollywood movies pretty proportionally to America's population.

Why should anyone want to exclude?

I can respect a desire to be historically accurate, but I can't think of any other justification for actively seeking to make the cast exclusively Caucasian. Why should a dragon be more welcome in Medieval England than a black person? The latter was there in real life. The former was not.

I can respect a desire to be historically accurate, but I can't think of any other justification for actively seeking to make the cast exclusively Caucasian. Why should a dragon be more welcome in Medieval England than a black person? The latter was there in real life. The former was not.

The latter was there in real life, yes, but in such small concentrations as to not even register. Ergo, a mythical period piece is still not likely to feature ethnic minorities in any real prominence if it takes place in medieval Europe.

By your logic, the Black Panther movie is racist for intentionally excluding white people from the cast wherever possible, because it's a fictional nation.

The fact is, if a creator of a story is telling a story with a fake world, inclusiveness purely for the sake of inclusiveness is just plain stupid. If they want their fictional world to have only white people, why is that a problem?

I see Black Panther as more or less being Marvel's mea culpa for the lack of inclusion in previous films. They did have Nick Cage and Falcon, but that still amounts to a bunch of white superheroes in costumes and two black men with no costumes. (Three black men without costumes if you count Luke Cage.)

I don't approve of all the decisions made in Black Panther. I don't like the idea of making a hero out of a separatist and I don't like the idea that Isaac Newton got his information from Wakanda.

But there's a difference between having a predominantly black cast to make up for a comparative lack of black actors in previous works and outright stating that you're not going to allow black knights in your Dungeons and Dragons world.

I certainly believe the use of a silver bullet as a calling card came from Bass Reeves. If I ever had the opportunity to do an adaptation of the Lone Ranger, I'd probably have a scene in which a young Jim Reid met Reeves or a stand-in for him.

Unless Disney comes out and says they're being intentionally racist in Black Panther to make up for possible, perceived racism in the MCU, this whole point of yours is one big pile of shit.

And, again, how many black people are there supposed to be in the mainline MCU anyway? You do know that the Avengers is basically all Americans, and America is only 13% black. That means that, between War Machine and Falcon, the MCU is already proportionally representing black people, but you're arguing that it's somehow racist against black people.

I wasn't accusing Marvel of racism, just saying that they were trying to make up for not having enough inclusion in their previous works. I guess I kinda forgot about War Machine though.

As for your constant mentions of population percentages, I'd like to point out that medieval Europe's population of elves, ogres, and dragons all rested at 0%.

If a film happens to have an all white cast, or a mostly white cast, there's nothing particularly wrong with that. But there really isn't a justification for making a stylistic choice that you're going to allow elves, aliens, robots, etc., and disallow diversity.

It's kind a moot point since, as others have said, this game seems to hit upon the one area which justifies racial homogeneity: being historically accurate. But you really can't have a Whites Only sign hanging above the entrance to some fantasy world of monsters, maidens, and magicians.
