Sean Bratches, managing director of commercial operations, said the change would be made "so as to be more in tune with our vision for this great sport".

F1 managing director of motorsports Ross Brawn told BBC Radio 5 live in December that the use of female promotional models was "under review".

The new F1 season begins on 25 March.

"While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 grands prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms," Bratches added.

"We don't believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world."

Stuart Pringle, managing director of British circuit Silverstone, said: "We wholeheartedly support the decision by F1 to drop the use of grid girls - it is an outdated practice that no longer has a place in sport."

Thank god attractive women will no longer be featured in F1. I'm sure the professional models will understand that their sinful bodies have no place in modern society and that their job is outdated.

Also it's good that those running F1 are finally appealing to their target audience: young pink-haired gender studies majors.

When they say things like "stop promoting unrealistic body image", who do you think have the bodies that they think are "unrealistic"?

I know! They just sit around saying a bunch of fucked up stuff and then get mad when someone calls them out for it.

And even now, they're getting super mad blaming some conspiratorial "progressive agenda" for the decisions that the people at F1 made concerning their own goddamn business. I hate how all these millennials always tout about how important free speech is when it comes to nazi's getting to speak their mind, and then go and get buttdevastated over something as stupid as whether or not there is a girl is standing in a certain spot for a race.

Who said criticism is an abridgement of free speech? I'm just pointing out how dumb it is when people get mad over something with almost literally no negative consequences whatsoever. Literally the only people this hurts are the models doing it themselves, who is such a small unimportant part of society, and I bet they won't have much trouble finding jobs.

It really shows the priorities of millenials when you see which new trends they're upset with.

Nazi's spouting evil garbage? Just let them be! Protesters standing in a street? Murder them! They deserve it for having the GALL to make people briefly wait! Those monsters obviously need to be removed from society. Permanently.

so it's a problem if they decide not to have a certain role in their company that they don't want anymore?

this is no different than a company deciding they want to lay off employees for a division they don't need anymore.

also, in my opinion, brands totally have the choice in how they market themselves. F1 believes that this will help their brand, so good for them.

Playboy magazine chooses not to have male models on their covers, because that's good for business for that brand. F1 chooses not to have female models for being "grid girls" because they think it's good for their business. Whether or not this is accurate is a different issue, but I don't see the problem.

I don't think he has any problem with sexy women in media. I mean look at Mileena

I think he was just talking about hot girls who know nothing about gaming interacting with 16 and 42 year old men who know nothing about girls all over conventions.

I kinda see his point. I remember when Dragon Age Origins was at some kind of E3esq showcase and they got a bunch of models to play it and it was the cringiest fucking thing.

I think Boon just wanted to talk about games and promote his stuff. You know, convent at the convention.

It is a complex situation.

Women have the right to do any job that they want. I totally agree with the idea of legalized prostitution. If a woman wants to do that job, feminism to me is a matter of choice.

A company's every right to do whatever they want in terms of what jobs are offered at their establishment. If they don't want to offer model type jobs, they have every right not to.

I do take issue with the idea that anything of loss happened. There is no lack of model jobs in the world. If these women are fine enough at their job they will find another modeling gig.

They lost their jobs because the cost/benefit analysis came in and saw that they weren't needed in today's market anymore. Let's be real, if they were indispensable they would still be around. They probably lost some sponsors due to the use of models and decided what the models brought to their business wasn't enough to warrant that.
