Especially with the dark/gothic atmosphere.

I've not given Grim Dawn a chance as it looks more or less similar to Diablo 3, which I hate. Wolcen is decent but in alpha. Anyone know of something that fits the bill?

PoE was OK, I played it when it was in beta, but it couldn't keep my attention. D2 remastered would be nice but it's literally just the same game.

Torchlight is the gameplay of Diablo 2 but with more quality of life improvements, no real difficulty spikes either.

The atmosphere is completely different though.

How so? I know you've mentioned that you don't like D3's less-grimdark art style (in a manner that reminded me of those hilariously cringy "necromancer's choice" redesigns back when the game was first revealed, but that's beside the point), but I can definitely tell you that unless you don't read anything, Grim Dawn is plenty dark.

PoE has changed quite dramatically since the beta, given that that was like 5 years ago. It'd definitely be worth taking a look at again. Not like you've got anything to lose, given the game's price.

Path of Exile has had some massive updates in the last few years, it's definitely worth revisiting if you haven't tried it in a long time. Grim dawn is another game I'd recommend giving a chance, it plays better than it looks.

There are some good diablo 2 mods you could try as well. Path of Diablo has an active community and does a good job of making the game feel fresh without changing too much. Median XL is a more dramatic departure from the core gameplay, but it does a lot of cool things and is also worth a look.

Hmm I've never been into the mod community stuff much but I might take a look. Path of Exile looks OK but I still feel as though none of these games really capture the same type of essence the diablo 2 did. It's a major bummer tbh. I'll definitely give grim dawn a chance at some point.
