It varies from country to country, but the gist of it is that Sony and Microsoft are terrified of pissing of retailers. If they put the games up on their own service for less than you could find it in their store... why would you buy it from a retailer?

We seem to be moving away from that slowly but surely, but that's basically why new games always cost just as much (or more) on PSN and Xbox Live. PC games no one cares anymore because you basically can't buy physical PC games anywhere. Valve/Steam completely killed that market.

Civ 6 I got a nice fancy special edition of with disc. Also, the guy at the store said it looked like Rise and Fall was coming to disc going by his system.

they think 60 is the same as $60

Don't forget to include the extra charges for importing the game. If I recall correctly, aren't import duties and VAT quite expensive? I'm not entirely sure on how the process works, but I assume there are extra fees involved with distributing the goods throughout the EU.

And yes, that wouldn't necessarily apply to digital goods, but as stated before, Sony/Microsoft don't want to undercut retailers.

You mean they go $60 -> 60 and then apply a rough exchange rate to get to a amount?

While the Dollar and Euro are roughly worth the same and the Pound is worth more?
