You need to tailor your subject matter to your audience. Do you really think she gives a damn about ninja turtles? Probably not so no point in bringing it up. Growing up I never hid the fact that I gamed but it's not like I spoke to my girlfriends about it cause they wouldn't have cared/couldn't relate. I saved that topic for my gamer friends.

I mean, technically anybody who regularly plays any video games can be classified as a gamer, even if they're terrible at them or just use shitty F2P stuff on their phone.

There are multiple layers to nerdiness:

1. Unattractive physically, socially awkward.

2. Attractive physically, nerdy interests.

3. Unattractive physically, socially competent with nerdy interests.

All three count in their own way, but results may vary. Typically, if you're attractive, most people will be indifferent to supportive of your nerdish pastimes. The same is also true if you're socially competent. The only people getting screwed over are in group 1.

I was just providing an example from like late 90s/early 00's before everyone and their their grandma had a phone to game. Before it became more socially acceptable.

Point is, you shouldn't just blurt out talking topics regardless of the audience. I don't talk to my wife about horror movies cause she can't stand to watch them. On the flip side, I talk to my cousin about them constantly.

That seems kind of shitty, tbh. You should be able to feel free to talk about anything with a significant other, providing it isn't obsessive or something. My bf talks to me about comic books and superheroes and DBZ. Do I like those things? Not in the slightest. I still try to listen and follow because he likes that stuff. On the flipside, I blab to him about Hallmark movies, J/K-pop groups, and Modern Family, despite him not really caring personally about that crap.
