Wow.... The absolute garbage that is this topic. I don't even know where to begin.
First off, JD isn't trying to limit poor repairs. They are trying to limit non-sanctioned repairs. They are not trying to limit warranty work, they are limiting 3rd party warranty work (very common in the used car market, for instance). They are making it literally impossible to fix your tractor/JD equipment anywhere EXCEPT a John Deere dealer. And that's par for the course. John Deere doesn't just say 'here, open a dealer' to someone with money. John Deere says where the dealer will be, what its going to sell, what parts it will carry, and what its market share is expected to be. If you do not meet that market share for 2 consecutive years, your sales staff is 'educated' by corporate staff on how to sell shit. You CANNOT sell lower than advertised. There is no dealer level incentives. If, for a 3rd tear, you are below your market share, they close up shop, and move the dealer. No questions asked. They micromanage every aspect of the dealer. And the sale. And the equipment. So how then, do they keep moving so much shit? 3 main points. They have a name that is impeccable. 30 years ago, no one made tractors like Johnny D. They have a parts network that is second to none. If I have a 40 year old JD 4020, any part it needs is no more than 3 days away. When the boys I know who run the parts side of a large JD dealer had to get parts for some experimental hydraulic arm, there was a total of 2 in the world. None on this continent. It was at their warehouse in 2 days Finally, power. You can buy a JD Swather with 610hp. In a fucking swather. Buddy couldn't hold traction on a gravel parking lot when he pulled one into the shop. They have an experimental tractor at a farm in my province running 1000hp, to see how long the engine lasts. If it meets expectations, they'll de-rate it to 850 and it'll be on the market. You don't get power like that, parts support like that, and a name like that, from any other maker. John Deere holds down 45% of the market share in this province. That's the goal. That's one company, with half the market. CaseIH, Ford-NewHolland, Kubota, Mahindra, none of them hold a candle to that. JD will do as they please. They are not selling shit to small timers any more. They're selling shit to massive farms farming huge land (the guy with the 1000 HP tractor, farms 68,000 acres). These kinds of guys aren't taking their shit to 3rd party people, they're going to a dealer because every second of downtime is money. So, JD doesn't care if the little guy can fix their shit. They are catering to someone else. --- Suck less, Rock Moar Have I licked butt hole before? All the time. --r4xor ... Copied to Clipboard!
