First, they all have to get internet. And the cable companies offer a discount when you bundle internet and TV together.

Some of these streaming TV services include Sling TV (starts at $20/month but you don't get a full selection of channels), Hulu Live TV ($40/month), and Youtube TV ($35/month).

So when you compare the cost of internet + the basic level of TV from a cable company with the cost of internet + one of these streaming services, the cost is more or less the same.

+ add the netflix and hulu subscriptions and whatever else and you're paying a lot either way

The truth is, it probably comes out about even. I am in the business of no more commercials so I get whatever offers me that. So in the end, I win.

I paid like $100 a month with my special introductory package. Now I just have hulu/Netflix so I pay a total of like $70.

I also have the ability to watch live tv through an antenna if need be for 0$ a month after my initial investment of $5 for a shitty antenna.

the savings come about when people split tv service bundles from sling, directvnow, hulu tv, youtube tv etc.

that wasn't really possible with traditional cable unless you lived under the same roof. if you can just cut network broadcasting all together you'll most certainly come out ahead.

anyways as for me personally i pay $30 a month for my internet, no caps. i just sign in with a cable subscription that my uncle has to view tv anywhere app content for most of the major networks on my apple tv. all of the tv anywhere apps (abc, fox, espn, etc) populate content in the tv app so i don't really have to go through them to find new stuff to watch. it also keeps track of what shows i'm watching so if something airs it will show up in my "up next" section so i can go ahead and watch it.

the only drawback is some networks make you wait 24 hours before you can stream something that they've aired, but that's becoming increasingly rare.

i've tucked all the tv anywhere apps that don't support live tv into a folder so they don't clutter my main screen. the tv anywhere apps that do have live tv integrated like fox (fx/fxm/natgeo) and espn, i keep visible and easily accessible.

i guess using my uncles sign in could qualify me as a leech, but i've been his tech support for just about everything for the past 10 years so i'm pretty sure it's a fair trade (and yes he is aware).

I pay about $180 a month for cable and internet.... If I got rid of the cable it'd be over $100 less.
