I played and beat 0 and it was fucking amazing! I really wish I got into this series waaaay sooner

So far Kiwami is ok. The story doesn't feel as engaging as 0's and overworld feels kinda empty so far. I know it's a remake of a PS2 game, but still >_> But I like having all 4 styles at the start, though Dragon style really sucks at the base level >_>

I just got Haruka and I'm literally carrying a sick child down the street but people still come up to me and say they want to punch me in the face lol.

Also, Majima Everywhere is awesome. I was literally taking selfies in a photo booth and he just randomly pops his head into the booth. Then I was strolling down the street and he comes up to me in a cop uniform and fights me cuz I had a fake gun in my inventory. I'm loving this

Kiwami was still great game, but yeah it pales in comparison to Yakuza 0. That game was amazing.

It gets sooo much worse/better lol. Though you should be prepared to pull your hair out trying to 100% him for CP due to how random his encounters are. At least the ones where he just shows up after/during an action of some sort like the photo booth are a sort of scripted random. I think some of them you may have to be a certain amount into the story, but for the most part the appearances that trigger a dialogue WILL occur if you do whatever it is. The outside world though? Unless he's maxed out for that point in the story, he's wandering the map somewhere or he's hiding in ONE random spot somewhere.

Is there an encounter finder that shows him?

Regular encounter finder accessory will show him if he's wandering wherever he is on the map. But if he's hiding (one of his ambush type encounters) he won't, but you'll still get that "Kiryu-chan!" alert when you're close to his spot. Not 100% on the range of that, maybe about the distance of the minimap?

The boss fights are kinda disappointing so far >_>

Shimano is literally just mister shakedown and this Omi lieutenant is just Beast mode Kiryu >_>

It was my first Yakuza game. I'm glad it was first because it's a bit rough around the edges (understandable, being a remake of a PS2 game), but I really enjoyed it and I'm excited to eventually play 0

I'm kinda glad I played 0 first. They reference certain events from 0 and it gave a lot of back story to Nishiki

Yeah so you basically played the one with the best story first. Although, Yakuza 2 has a fucking incredible story as well. And you can expect it to be out soon too in form of Kiwami 2.

imo Yakuza Kiwami lacks the polished feel of 0 but also lacks the charm of the original. Still a great game and I do admit I'm overly critical as a fan, but that's just my opinion.

Each main game takes place in the year it comes out (except 0) so she ages in real time and at the beginning of 6, you find out that she had a baby, which is a weird thing when you're used to thinking of her as the child character. If there was a time jump, it probably wouldn't be as weird. Not weird in a bad way, just a "huh that's kind of weird to think about" way if that makes sense.

Also in 5 she has some mildly revealing outfits which is kinda weird, because like I said, you're used to thinking of her as the kid character lol

Yeah, but they do stay true to the original mostly. Even the annoying parts. In the original, they did have their own movesets though.

I'm guessing the father is revealed in the finale as "the man behind it all". Game's been out in Japan for a while so the answer is out there but I ain't lookin it up. Anyway given the time difference Haruka is roughly 20 in Yakuza 6 so it's not like she was in high school when she got pregnant.

The best is when its supposed to be an American guy speaking poor Japanese, but since all the text is English for the player, they show it by making the English speaking guy speak in poor English and the Japanese people speaking perfect English. Its weird.

An English demo comes out on February 27 though so there's that to look forward to. And your progress in the demo can be carried over to the final game.

Kiwami was fun but it's a shame that it had to live up to the expectations that 0 made. A decade plus old story and animations really did a number on it. You can even tell the massive difference in new vs old content in one of the first cutscenes when Majima meets Kiryu. The facial animations for the content they added was much better than what they were using 10 seconds prior.
