Never give them cash. Buy and donate food but never give cash.

If I know them yes

if they're sketchy and looking for a quick buck and/or a fake panhandler then I usually give them some pennies.

No, but that's because I barely have money for myself.

My mom is always big on charity stuff and was always helpful with shit like canned food drives at school and the giving tree on Christmas

No, I usually give them a job application. I have a bunch of printouts from craiglist, easy general labor jobs.

A little bit yeah.

They wouldn't be begging if they didn't really need it

Who am I to judge the unfortunate

No, except very occasionally when they get to me. There's a beggar in my city whose sign just says "HELP" and for some reason the simplicity of the plea gets to me. But otherwise, no. Definitely not to the ones with the crappy jokes like "the dog ate my paycheck." UGH

I know someone who works for a staffing agency. She gives them her cards because they are "out of work". They never call or show.

Yeah don't actually need help, just looking for extra handouts.

Yes. Not always. There are a few that hang out near the stripmall near my apartment. They're pretty nice and cool and genuinely down on their luck. A couple of them have clear drug addictions, but I still give them spare change or a cigarette or a taco now and then. They're human beings.

Ever see a "homeless" with a cell phone?

A few nights ago. He was falling asleep on a bus bench I walked by with my dog. He was watching Netflix.

Homeless people aren't always completely broke. They just can't afford a place to live.

I saw a homeless guy say he lost his brand new Android that was worth $800. Well, either homeless or he just decided not to shower for a few months and dress in extremely tattered clothes.

I remember riding the subway once and there was this homeless guy asking for anything that can help him, like food, money or prayer and there was one guy who was like "I don't have any loose change on me, but I do have some spare apples"

The way the homeless guy looked at the guy who was going to give him apples was funny to me. He genuinely had a disgusted look on his face, the homeless guy then afterwards said "Sorry, money only" and went on his way.

Like 2 seconds ago you were begging for some help in anyway they can (they even specified food) and got that help but rejected it because it wasn't money. Like lol

If they ask for money "for food" or "for the bus" or whatever, I'll maybe offer them food or offer to pay for their bus ticket etc. More often than not, they end up saying "nah don't worry about it" - if they're happy to accept that, I'll actually give them it, in the case of food I'll often even go into a store / fast food place with them and let them pick something out.

With that being said, one time a homeless guy came up to me and straight up asked "I'm short a couple of dollars for a box of beer, can you spare some?" Simply because of his honesty, I gave him it.

Not just no but hell no.

We've had a huge influx of them around here and they approach you when you pull up to the pump at the gas stations, get down at the grocery store, donut shop, the damn auto parts store. And it's not just one of them one time. It's consistent. And I've had enough of their crap. I don't even let them finish their bs line now. They usually get two words out, "Do/can you.." and I cut them straight off with a really loud "No!" like to a dog that just pooped on the floor.

Thankfully the county court has finally deemed the local homeless camp a hazard and placed the entire property in receivership status and put a 24/7 security guard around what's known as "the compound" near downtown which was this large failed and now burned thanks to the homeless, mixed use office center. 6 huge two story buildings that were half constructed and then abandoned a decade ago. A damn eye sore and then the homeless put up a camp with dozens of them inside this thing a few years ago. So finally things are getting better.
