That playthrough is the perfect demonstration of why I don't really watch them, I just have them on in the background. It gets frustrating to see them play games sometimes unless one of them actually knows the game.

Edit: It's why I don't get peeved if they never finish games, since I'm not really invested in the playthroughs themselves. >_>

That playthrough is the perfect demonstration of why I don't really watch them, I just have them on in the background. It gets frustrating to see them play games sometimes unless one of them actually knows the game.

Edit: It's why I don't get peeved if they never finish games, since I'm not really invested in the playthroughs themselves. >_>

Indeed. The game is a set in a sitcom for me. You don't watch Game Grumps for the stellar gameplay, unless you get off on Arin absolutely sucking at games.

Going by the comments on reddit and Youtube, I get the sense that it's an especially bad one. They seem a lot more competent in their WW one, even if Arin played it a long time ago.

I recommend their Kirby's Dream Course series. That series was so well received, fans made a romhack of it to give them a bunch of new levels to play, which they did to greatly extend the series.

My favorite games they play tend to be ones that are vs., or ones where they coop. So just about any golf/golf-esque game like Dream Course, Super Mario 3D World, Shovel Knight...

Can be a pretty good time so long as you're not bothered by people playing poorly and missing obvious stuff at times. Because they do that a lot.

Fortunately I'm blessed with a seemingly rare trait where that sort of thing doesn't bother me at all. I'm like the opposite of one of those people who'd watch someone play and quickly yank the controller out of their hands to show them what they're meant to do. >_> Loooot of people like that in the youtube comment section though...

I'm usually fine with it too, but they are exceptionally bad at Paper Mario. A lot of mistakes they've made in Wind Waker are 100% explainable by them not paying attention because they're talking to each other and taken months-long breaks. They completed Paper Mario without learning utterly basic mechanics like switching your characters positions.

Even though I never played Paper Mario games, even I can tell Dan played extremely poorly and Arin was pretty thoroughly checked out for most of it.

The fact Danny was still able to beat the game regardless really says a lot about how overhyped the difficulty was though. I kept seeing people say "oh he'll never beat this or that if he doesn't learn how to play" yet he did. It's kind of remarkable in its own way.

Really the only time how they play bothered me, and I'm not even sure this should count, is mostly Dark Souls 3 and the Bloodborne DLC, because Arin kept summoning for all the bosses, oftentimes like, first try, too. And that bothers me because I am prepared for Game Grumps to play very poorly, but play nonetheless, and just having a random from online beat the bosses for you isn't technically playing so...

But like, all the poor decisions Arin made in terms of combat and leveling and stuff in those games, that didn't bother me. I was actually pretty entertained by his poor management of blood gems for awhile because IIRC he went a good stretch of time not realising he had a cursed HP drain gem in his weapon and that was fun.

It really didn't seem to matter a whole lot. Without that he may have had to redo it once but so long as he realised the rhythm and the rhyme (which basically amounts to just have Vivian do everything) it seemed like it was gonna be mostly smooth. It's kind of weird how badly Vivian shuts her down.

That's not why they suck at the games. They are not lazy people. In fact both of them appear to more resemble over-workers. Possibly to a dangerous degree, especially in Dan's case. >_>

Nothing to do with laziness, it just makes sense. If you make money off playing games why would you try to finish them quickly? If anything you'd play them slower. The main reason people watch their content isn't for the shitty abilities either, it's for the commentary, and it's natural to suck at a game when your concentration is somewhere else.

As for overworking, lol okay... Looking at their channel they upload 2 videos per day that average between 15-20 minutes long. Let's be generous and say 20 minutes, so that's 40 minutes of content per day. If they play a game for a standard 8 hours in one day then that's 12 days worth of content right there. I don't know who does the editing for the videos but to be honest, there's basically zero work done on that front.

Nothing about the decisions they've made in playthroughs suggest they try to drag it out; in fact it's entirely the opposite. They actively take steps to hurry things along. They did so in Paper Mario. In Souls games. In Breath of the Wild. They fast-forward/don't show stuff, they look things up, they get help, they forgo a lot of optional stuff.

They also do a lot more than Game Grumps. Danny is in two different bands and they've also filmed an actual normal show and go on tour a lot and that's just the like, main out in the open entertainment stuff.

They're not really just a fun goofy game playing channel.

If you watch enough to hear the stuff they say about their lives it slowly paints a picture of people who seldom aren't actively doing something important that they need to do.
