Current Events > My grandma is moving into hospice tomorrow

She had a stroke, has fractures up her spine, broke her femur in two places, has cancer in her right shoulder, and a tumor in her head
Apparently they gave her some opioids and she's having delusions of the nurses burning the room and is refusing to eat

My dad called me this morning to tell me about it. I still haven't really processed it
Like, I saw her at Christmas and she was relatively ok. hell, I got married in November and she was fine except for a small limp. she even was drinking and telling me she had caught up on ASOIAF and couldn't wait for The Winds of Winter to come out (which is kinda funny to think about).

Idk. it still hasn't hit me yet. once she dies, she'll be my first grandparent to go

Damn I'm sorry to hear man. I lost my grandma 2 years ago and the last months of her life were strange. It took some time to really process and it's still strange. At least you can find relief knowing that she won't be suffering anymore when the time unfortunately comes

and yeah, it's just a waiting game at this point. my grandpa isn't taking it as well as we had hoped (which makes sense that he's upset when his wife of 50+ years is dying)

My grandmother is going into a nursing home soon. She was supposed to die months ago. I still don't think they've told her she's terminal. No doubt she's figured it out though.

Well she's become unresponsive and is looped up on some drugs. at least she's not in pain

I'm more worried for my dad and grandpa than anything else.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Be there for your Dad and Granddad and they'll be there for you. It'll be rough but it'll get better. There's no right way to go about it but try to stay strong.
