I don't think anyone grows up to aspire to work in a call centre. But I appreciate that at least they've taken crappy work rather than sit at home and collect government assistance.

The ones that call businesses are worse, IMO. The amount of calls I get trying to get me to buy product is ridiculous and the tricks they try to do to receptionists to get you on the phone with you is bad.

They're not bad people. They are people that need money and this is one of the only jobs they can do. If they're doing this job to save up to do something better. Not everyone is college or military material.

i feel sad at how repetitive and rehearsed it must be.

i got a call about subscribing to a newspaper and said that i got all my news on the internet and he gave me a rant about only newspapers carrying "serious" news all the while ignoring the fact that their own newspaper had an online site.

They hate repeating themselves and sounding sleazy, but it can't be helped. Gamestop employees don't like asking if you want to become a member, but they have to because of secret shoppers and having to meet a quota.

There are some towns where the call center is one of the best regular jobs available locally.

I think you have to be a certain kind of person, that doesn't really care that you are annoying people. I got a call once and I told the lady that I was busy and she said "....ok, well anyway blah blah blah" and then I hung up.

I personally can't do a job I hate to death. Like at one of my old jobs I hated trying to pitch people into buying our product. I'm not a sales person and I have no motivation to try and sell our product.

They have to follow a script. It's not about a lack of empathy. They always have to speak as if their boss is right behind them . They hate it more than you do.

I was a telemarketer for MCI for a couple months in the mid 2000s. Worst job I've ever had, by far.
