I was thinking maybe you could volunteer at an animal shelter. Animals are much easier to socialize with than people since they don't expect a lot from you and are easy to win over (dogs anyway, cats and birds might require a bit more work >_>). It's a non-threatening way to get out more and could ease you into dealing with people again.
