Yes it can, but it can also cause other issues so talk to your doctor because they know more about medication than fuckin' CE.

Yes, to the point they're habit forming and can become addictive.

yup, dont listen to any naysayers. the majority of anxiety medications are safe as they usually give SSRIs which have minor side effects. There are dangerous anti-anxiolytics but they wont give them to you unless you have severe anxiety or if its for a one-off use (i.e one time before a big event).

Sometimes taking drugs can help, I would recommend you find out what is causing the anxiety (a therapist can help), and address the issue.
