I really liked it as a kid. I just did another play-through of Wind Waker for the thousandth time and I love it; that game never gets old. So fun. So I thought I'd give TP another run, too.

It's been maybe five years since my last play-through of TP, and man, is it rough. I'm only an hour in and it's a complete snooze-fest. How do I not remember it being this slow and unexciting? It's funny, too, how polarizing the game is; everyone I know either loves it or hates it. There is no middle. I don't remember having any particularly strong feelings towards it before, but I at least enjoyed it. This time around, not so much.

Wind Waker HD for the Wii U is a significant improvement. It takes away almost all of the agonizing parts about the Triforce hunt and gives you the shards directly. As well as a bunch of other minor improvements that make the game so much better (like the Nintendo Gallery sidequest). Definitely the definitive version.

Not all of them. There's still some you have to fish up. I think it was 3, maybe 4.
Though that was mostly so Tingle wasn't useless, because God forbid we're ever allowed to forget he exists.

I personally never had a problem with the Triforce Quest. It didn't even take that long.

I love the game but it really does start off slow. I feel like once you finally get to your first temple/dungeon is when the game picks up. (Which unfortunately is like...2 hours in.)

Eh. The beginning kinda sucks up until you get out of the forest.

The slow start is a good thing. It's called setting up contrast. It's good for developing a character instead of having them jump straight into the action-hero stage.

Honestly, I've never been able to finish subsequent playthroughs of TP. I think my last one is sitting at City in the Sky.
For me, the tutorial isn't the worst part of the game. It's the trog that is the rest of the game.

overall I'd say TP and SS are the 2 zelda games I've played the least

I've played SS once, and then quickly lost interest in my immediate attempt at a Hero Mode run. Traded it in years ago because I'll never touch it again unless they do a remaster that completely drops the waggle controls.
Though at least there was some manner of an enjoyable game buried in there somewhere. BotW doesn't even have that, and I have even less desire to ever return to that game.

I kind of remember the very beginning sucking and the last 2 dungeons being terrible. Especially that stupid sky dungeon, which was the worst. I still really liked that game though, especially the sword fighting mechanics in the game. I've been tempted to replay some of my GC games lately, a lot of amazing titles there.

I personally thought the sky dungeon was super awesome. And the mirror too. The game is really awesome there.

Arbiter Grounds is still my personal favorite though.

Struggling to get through the game... maybe I should take a page from TWWHD and get the HD version. Has anyone here played it? Is it superior to the original?

Twilight Princess HD is a much better game than the Gamecube original. The thing that killed it for me on the Gamecube is just how boring it was - especially the "hunt the ghost bugs in the dark" quest; that was just tedious as Hell. Thankfully, there are much less to find in the HD remake.

I'm thinking about looking into that. From what I've read, they really fix some of the inconveniences and annoying parts that were pretty blatant in the original, similar to TWWHD.

I'm hesitant to say TPHD is worth $50 (certainly not worth $60 for physical) personally. The improvements were not nearly as drastic as WWHD, and it wasn't really a great game in the first place.

Twilight princess is a disappointing piece of garbage, and even those guys at nintendo have admitted as much, with them wasting a year of precious development time on porting the game to the wii. So many ideas that they chucked out the window, which is why the game is so boring. Barren lifeless overworld. Lifeless Hyrule Town. The OoT Hyrule Town actually felt more lively and interactive than the TP one, can you believe it? Boring wolf sections. And more garbage.

Wind Waker has a lot of flaws but a lot of good parts too, and it's a shame that the criticism when the game came out was over it being cel-shaded, although I can't blame fans if Nintendo did a bait-and-switch by showing a fight with adult link and ganondorf in that one E3 or other expo trailer (nintendoworld?) So that's on Nintendo.

Even Skyward Sword, which is also pure garbage because of the motion plus requirement (and subsequent tedium) has like one or two nice parts about it (but also lots of problems like a near barren + tedious sky overworld) though it definitely isn't one I'll ever replay, ever.

But TP is simply irredeemable in the disappointment and waste of a game department.
