How can one person harm up to 160 people with no one intervening? He's scum but there has to be others involved that are getting away scot free.

He was in a privileged position with sport authorities covering for him. Under those conditions, he could have harmed more.

People probably did step forward earlier, but could have been silenced or dismissed with that kind of leverage.
There's a lot of Larry Nassars in the world shielded by convenient wealth and status. Good luck prosecuting them...

When children or very very young teens are told what said person is doing is normal or "how we do things" a lot of it might go unreported to the parents. Or the parents might not believe their kids or want to because some parents like to live through their kid. Or they tell their parents. Parents ask and they say the kid might be lying.

Comes down to kids not being sure what to do. And parents probably living through their kids so they dismiss what the kids say.

When the culture is normalized, you'd be surprised at the amount of shit people can get away with. If the program is good, people will look the other way if you're winning.

Let's not forget that he was the doctor for the Olympic team. The kind of pressure these kids are under is already immense. This is basically the only goal of their entire lives for years on end. The thought that they might not make the team because they spoke up, and would have essentially thrown all of their dreams in the trash along with the uncountable hours of dedication and hard work, would be enough to keep the majority of them silent already.
