Pretty much, plus it's a lot more expensive to have them do the added work. Well, unless it's a company which takes photos beforehand, packs, and then unpacks everything into the same configuration which, while expensive, might be worth the price.

Most moving companies tell professional, busy people that their belongings will be packed with care and organization, then don't.

You can't watch all of them at the same time. They don't just pack one room and move on to the next one. The crew is packing multiple rooms at once. Pack anything that is important to you before hand and make sure you have the extra insurance. Shit will be damage when it arrives. It always is. When I was a kid my dad got transfered to a new city every so often and each time Halliburton paid for the movers. They always broke and damaged stuff, no matter how closely my mother tried to supervise them.

But shit always got damaged or broken when we moved ourselves too. At least when a company does it you have someone else to blame and get some reimbursement for the damage.

Yep. Because the people packing are just schlubs that can't get a better job. They don't care about your crap. They just want to get the job done and they know the company has made allowances for a certain amount of expected damage.
