the old crew isn't girls. They're still around. the Saintias are this all-female unit of Athena's personal bodyguards and this is a spin off side story but the story is by Kurumada so it's canon to the main series.

I still pissed me off... I recall seeing the original saint seiya cartoons back in the early 90s (they were old and before my time even then! But I still love them) and I am very fond of them, so the whole "now it's with high school girls lol" thing pissed me off.
