I thought Fear & Desire was generally considered a bad film?

Personally, I'd say that David Lynch is somebody who's never made a bad film, but at the same time I know there are many people who would say that he's only made bad films, so...

I love Lynch but that film with Nick Cage in 92 forgot the name, was a crap film.

Nolan?

Following and Memento cool, the Batman movies, Inception some of the most overrated films in years. Dude basically copied Paprika, added a ton of exposition, stiff acting, and special effects and everyone thought it was this deep confusing movie despite the fact the characters explain the plot like we are children in every scene. Kon left you thinking with Paprika, Nolan just holds your hand. No way is he in this convo post 2000.

I dunno why Aronofsky and Nolan are being mentioned, they both stole Satoshi K on ' s work and butchered it, and with Aronofsky we can add in Powell ' s Red Shoes. Fan boys love to point out some article where Nolan claims he never saw Paprika and was writing Inception since the 90s but we all know that is a damn lie. Hell let's say it wasnt, how do you spend a decade writing a script that weak. Woody Allen and the Coens for example wrote like 5 classic scripts in one decade and all this dude did was copy Kon and water it down?

I don't think trash was the word but you got me, Tarkovsky was a beast and is Def in the running with Kubrick, Kurosawa, Bergman, maybe Antonioni, and Melville should get props too. Hell even Chaplin now that I think of it. Also I think we are sleeping on Lumet too. 12 Angry Men, Dog Day, Network, Serpico dude was a beast.

Yeah, sorry you wrote stinkers! Totally agree about Bergman as well. To be fair, I haven't seen all of his films due to him having directed a shit ton of films, but I've liked every single one I've seen. Another Swede Tomas Alfredson had a pretty nigh perfect record as well until The Snowman last year, but I feel like that wasn't his fault though... The script totally bastardized the book.

Aronofsky is a hack and has released lots of trash, Pi being particularly egregious
Kon, conversely, is always fantastic

Bergman, Tarkovsky, and the probably more disagreeable Lumet never released anything bad imo

Nah, I think he's talking about Perfect Blue. A lot of Requiem of a Dream is inspired from that one. At least a lot of takes. Though personally I love both.

iirc, Black Swan is inspired by Perfect Blue, so I was confused.

sorry, I meant which movie inspired by Perfect Blue was butchered by Arnofsky?

because even though Perfect Blue is probably my favorite animated movie, I think that Black Swan is a lot better, even though you could see a lot of PB in it

like, if you're talking about Requiem for a Dream, I haven't seen it, so I can't comment on its quality.

My first thought

Didn't he recently do a few so-so attempts to get back into Hollywood? Edge of Darkness, Get the Gringo and Blood Father come to mind. I only saw the former, though.

MabusIncarnate posted...

I don't think i've seen anything from him I didn't love. The World's End is a phenomenal, and underrated film.

I couldn't agree more. It was great. I think it's my least favourite film in the trilogy, but that means basically nothing because even the worse in a series of amazing films can still be amazing in its own right.

All 3 of those movies were awesome in their own way especially get the gringo that movie was something fresh
