In both franchises, these three "elements" are important: Grass/Forest, Fire, and Water. They're even used in that order. (i.e. Link obtains the Forest Medallion first in Ocarina of Time, then the Fire, then the Water. He also gets the Deku, Goron, and Zora masks in the same order. In the National Pokedex, Grass Pokemon Bulbasaur is #1, then the fire-type Charmander is #4, and lastly, Squirtle is #7.)

Yes because no series has ever used fire and water as elements before.

The Water Temple can be done before the Fire Temple. The Zora's Sapphire can also be obtained before the Goron's Ruby.
