I made the whiskey steaks first.

Basically nothing but a little bit of sea salt sprinkled on top.

Tastes great but I think the whiskey taste is probably better suited for jerky.

jerky making is top tier, all one needs is one of those dehydrator's.

Alright the marinades sound good but two observations

- what cut of steak? Some take to marinades better, usually the cheaper fattier cuts
- how are you cooking them? What's your method. Steaks look a little grey to me which suggests not a high enough heat or that steaks went into the pan while still wet

Can't remember off the top of my head it was a pack of 8 steaks for $18. They were super thin so have to eat two at a time. They're like pancakes made out of beef. I made two right away and then marinaded the other 6.

Additionally the chili marinade didn't work at all. Tastes fine but also tastes like I just cooked it plain and added sauce after the fact.

I baked them in an oven at 400 degrees for about 8 minutes on a cast iron pan. I've done this a lot with pork and tried to replicate my success with beef but it didn't work out quite the same. I'm going to try different cuts next time.

The grey color is because the juice collected in the pan to give a kind of boiled look.

Hard to tell when it's that thin, could be chuck or round maybe.

Maybe next time add salt into the marinade to help the marinade permeate into the juice better. Sugar also works quite well. Or beat the meat with a mallet. Heh, beat the meat.

If you intended to tenderise the meat, something acidic would really help. Pineapple is ideal for this.

You'll have a hard time getting a good sear on something that thin i guess. I would pat down the steaks until they're as dry as possible, and make sure the pan is smoking out with an oil that has a decently high smoke point, like olive oil.

Just my two cents.

Don't necessarily disagree with any of this stuff. This steak is pretty hard to cook since it goes from raw to well done faster than it takes me to put it in the pan. I've come to the conclusion that I don't think this type of steak is good for an oven at all. If I ever buy it again, I would likely use it to make meat sauce with it.

Or maybe schnitzel.

I henestly reckon it would be good if you breaded it. Just like 2 minutes each side if that.
