MHW will have a mechanic called Squads which will basically function like guilds. We can join up to 8 squads at a time, and each squad can have up to 50 members.

What are your thoughts on forming a dedicated CE squad for convenience, as well as a public Discord for talking? I have no mic for PS4, but one for my PC.

There's entire recruiting threads on the game board, and as it's on ps4 there's also the ability to use party chat with up to 8 people. Even more with some special tricks. Would there really be enough CEtizens to merit a discord for it, or would it be more for offline planning of schedules?

Also is there an incentive to join one, like, "if each guild you're in finishes 5000 difficulty 5 or below missions, everyone gets a free such and such" or is it just for the sake of hopefully having immediate access to squad members to run content with?

I'm guessing no online crossplay right? Because I'm getting it on the PS4.

No, Sony has pretty much squashed most future possibilities of crossplay.

I also never played a MH game before but have this one preordered. Not sure what to expect.

I'm aware. I want to play with CE people, preferably, not strangers from that board. Granted, if I talked on that board more they wouldn't be strangers...ANYWAY. Any # of people would merit a Discord, imo. They're free and can be made in like 10 seconds. Figured it would be used for in-game and out of game. I don't believe there's any incentive other than convenience.

And yeah, this, perhaps I should have mentioned. Already a good handful of us from the Sanctuary will be playing. I figured it would be more fun to get as many as possible since I see a lot of interest in World on here.

It's definitely a game that requires a lot of time, but it's also a game where you can spread it out over time easily. If you are planning on doing the beta, it wraps up tomorrow night. 8pm Central, iirc.

Thinking of pros and cons of a board general vs Discord. Discord, if any of us have friends that play, they can easily be invited. Can set up side-chats for the various parties and their mic use. Or maybe it's just me that only has a PC mic and doesn't even like the PS4 one that much. o_O *shrug*

I wish CE didn't have a ton of discord servers and just had one, well maintained one that we could all use. Instead of having to make new servers for everyting, we'd be able to make roles for a certain game along with rooms for that game/room.

That would be ideal. There are two major ones, aren't there? Not counting secret boards, I mean. Any way of asking them to merge?

There are like 3 or 4 that I know of. I really doubt people would be willing to give up a server in favor of trying to have one well established one but we could try.

Well, it's a little complicated. He's 17 and mentally challenged. It's certainly frustrating at times, but I try to keep things in order so he doesn't get upset. He feels that if I get to watch him play then that's more than fair. lol

Also, my mom just left to take him to the hospital, he had a huge knot appear on his face. >_>

And now that I remember it, it was closer to 35. I beat the leviathon or whatever that took out the main characters ship at the beginning

Gooood luck with that man. Part of the reason there are so many is because of personalities. Some people just dont like each other.

I'm going to make a note of those who show interest. I won't make it until the night before. Maybe there will be a miracle and we can merge and do something with the current CE servers, maybe people will want to stick with a General topic and squads, we'll see. I'm not too fussed, just want to get the CE players together.

No worries, he has enough sense to not be so selfish. My mom has him spoiled.
Also, it was an allergic reaction to something, his face swelled up more on the way apparently. Whatever medicine they gave him fixed him up, gotta get him a prednisone(???) prescription tomorrow.

oh good! Glad it's something easily fixed. Now you should also convince the doctor on the side to say that he's also allergic to the PS4. ;P jk

monster hunter combat is kinda like soulsborne boss fights except your actions have more weight to them.

Oof, not always a good idea. I hope you like it! But yeah, the game is basically a boss hunt-a-thon. There are other aspects to it, like equipment making and gathering, but it revolves around the boss hunts. There's also various degrees of learning curves, depending on your entry game. I'm not sure how World's difficulty will be overall, but I do know I'll be having fun with it.

Oh, all that stuff is pretty straight forward. All of the weapon types and what you can do with them are available from the start. I also try to gather everything as I come across it and don't sell anything, as you'll likely need it later on. My personal mission etiquette is to never do multiplayer for a monster I haven't beaten solo. Solo is also my preference though, so *shrug*
