Current Events > I recently got a wisdom tooth pulled out and theres still tooth there

and my gums are pushing out the pieces of the tooth that broke off during the extraction

this is my second wisdom tooth to be pulled and the first didnt do that. Freaky stuff

ugh this is the stuff of nightmares man you should probably go to a different dentist/oral surgeon ASAP and get this taken care of.

after it happened i asked my friend whos a dental hygienist about it and apparently its not that uncommon.

Is that... the right thing though? I had all four taken out and they definitely didn't leave anything in there and they even reset the bone and everything which was kinda gross I wish they didn't explain that to me.

The way they explained it to me is that if pieces break deep enough they can get stuck and not flushed out in the end. Your gums will see them as foreign and push them out naturally.

Fine, i mean you can feel them pulling on the tooth but theres absolutely no pain. Like a couple of tugs and it was out.

my first tooth i had pulled out they had to use some extra stuff cause i could feel it even after the first shot. Took em like 2 1/2 shots

It's normal. The body will try to force the root out and then you can go back to get it extracted again if needed. It will be significantly easier the second time around.

There are even situations where the dentist or oral surgeon will intentionally leave root tips behind on bottom wisdom teeth if there is a high risk of damaging or severing the inferior alveolor nerve. If that were to get damaged, you'll lose feeling in your lower lip and teeth on whichever side it happens to.
