This fucking sucks.

He was always a drinker. That was always the gimmick. But it seemed fine.

Last couple of years, it's fucking sad for everyone but his buddies he drinks with.

He has a respectable job and makes very, very good money. So it's hard to say "get your life in order". He works and works hard.

But he started drinking at work. He drives home in this state. He drinks until bed. Has a beer in the morning with the meds, and repeat.

I don't know what to do. I can't talk to him because he's just so fucking gross. I don't drink, primarily because I think drunk people are pretty gross. Drunk alcoholics are mega gross and insanely sad.

Anyone else have a family member like this? How do you deal with it? My best friend is also an alcoholic (who abuses cocaine) so it's tough to talk to him about it.

My entire family is like this and I get terrible when drinking. Nothing you can really do... just enjoy the time you have left man.

Even tho both would technically be considered an alcoholic; someone who has a couple drinks each day and someone who literally starts their day with booze and ends it with booze are not the same. This is a person who doesnt drink because they enjoy it, or to cool down after a hard day; they drink to just simply be able to function throughout the day. The booze is no longer a drug to them, but a medicine that cures them of their agonizing and crippling sobriety (which is more than likely just straight withdrawals).

This person needs to make serious changes ASAP before their body and their mind start to literally fall apart.

As long as he's a functioning alcoholic there won't be much you can do. He'll need some kinda wake up call like a DUI.

Then they become addicted to the alcohol. If you drink enough you will get addicted.

Your dad knows if he's a drunk or not. If he wants to get help he will. If he doesn't, he won't. Literally nothing you do can change that. I'm sorry, but that's just how it is. You can try telling him you want him to stop, but it's not gonna do anything unless he really wants to stop.

Also I've been an alcoholic close to near death. I listened to literally no one's advice even though I knew they were all right. I realized I didn't want to die and was sick and tired of being sick and tired, sadly some people never take the hint or just don't care to change anything
