Idk. It's a tricky subject. It is wrong to discriminate based on age (besides not hiring minors, or not hiring people under 21 to work with alcohol). However, with changing technology altering the landscape of certain professions, progress shouldn't be halted just because a disproportionate amount of older employees will be unable to adapt. For this reason, it is difficult to give sufficient protections for age based discrimination when there are completely valid reasons for the terminations.

A lot of it is a failure to adapt to new technology swiftly tbh. Call it the secret weapon millennials have over baby boomers (unless those baby boomers are in management positions). Unfortunately not as big a deal for my industry in some ways since they were onto the potential of computers already in the early 80s with writing relevant programs on floppy disks, so youll have cats in their 60s who are likely better with computer issues than most IT guys. In a lot of regular office job scenarios though, Im sure the contrast in bare bones technological aptitude is pretty stark.

I feel like ableism hasn't been talked about enough the past year or so... with Trump's presidency making racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia & transphobia extra hot topics, discussions about ableism have been kind of left in the dust.

It's a shame, too; ableism is one of the vilest forms of bigotry there is, given how vulnerable its subjects of prejudice are.

everyone hates old people until they are old themselves. it's a very stupid fault of humanity. you'd think we could look ahead and realize the flaw in the logic

The Olympics is a perfect example of ageism. In some sports, like soccer, you have to be 23 or below to compete, and only three players can be over the age limit.

I can't even fathom this type of restriction.
