TL;DR - Leveling in 7.3.5 has a negligible change in time to level, but significantly more freedom and variety.

To the people saying its just a scam to make people buy more level boosts, youre very wrong. If anything, it makes it more enjoyable to level alts, and therefore, designed to make people less likely to buy the level boosts. Unless youre ignorant and dont know what youre talking about. Then by all means fork over your cash and boost away. Less idiots I have to interact with while I level my alts.

Leveling in MMO's is a boring grind. It's an obsolete system that needs to go.

Levelling has to have better incentives to remain.

in runescape, levelling different skills allowed you to do many different things for gold, or fight in one of three ways. and quests mattered because you needed certain levels in skills, and quests unlocked either more things within a skill, new areas (generally with more things for some skills) or special items (that mattered because they aren't tradable, but provided good use to any player who did the quest, i.e. the ectophial to instantly teleport to port phatmatsys)

in WoW, or FF14, or really any other mmo, quests are just globs of xp and specific level rewards thrown at you to simulate progress, but really it doesn't matter because next quest you get a new item that's slightly stronger than your current item, and then the quest after that you get a new item thats stronger than a different item, repeat till cap where you can do raids on a weekly lockout to get "the best" gear until the next patch, or next wing of a raid is released.

levelling in runescape meant doing more quests with meaningful unlockables, while contributing to your characters growth. sure some skills are cancer (runecrafting) but others make money, or are generally afkable so you can make money towards other skills or combat related skills to improve yourself

levelling in themepark mmos is essentially doing as many quests in one area as you can until you're pushed along into the next area to do more quests to level up. it becomes tiresome and meaningless because it's just a grind to get to the end of the game and get into actual interesting content, many areas you barely return to as they're all level capped (ff14 solved this with the class system and fates and levyquests, wow is attempting to solve this with the new patch) but in the end the entire themepark quests system is archaic and provides nothing towards a good experience

and people may bash on runescape, but to clarify i play OSRS, and frankly i'd rather have a system where i level up a skill i don't like for a quest with meaningful content or rewards, than to just do as many quests as possible when i play to reach a higher level, close to the "end game"

I mean in osrs I can solo some bosses already, and only 1 of my stats is maxed, and I have many quests left to do, many with meaningful rewards for doing them

Doesn't this also hurt healers? Why roll healer through quest content when you can go DPS instead. Also, why queue for dungeons when quests give better EXP.

If you were solo leveling as a healer you were doing it wrong.

But it's also why they did bring in dual spec later on.

Uhhh, I wanna say the name was Shadowfang Keep, or something similar. It was in a Horde 10-20 Zone north of Gilneas and seemed to have to do with the Worgen.

But there was an important Paladin guy in Stormwind who wanted me to go there and get stuff for a weapon for myself.

Ah, I had assumed since a Paladin class trainer gave me the quest to go to an important Paladin guy, that it was a special Paladin quest. My bad.

Either way, that part's not really the point. The point is that I had to solo that one since it was pre-scaling, and now that I did a dungeon in a queue post-scaling, I miss getting to be a few levels high and solo-ing, since I got more gear, transmogs, and exploration.

In total, 1-60 took 19 hours, 45 minutes, and 19 seconds of playtime. We're going to call that 20 hours. Here is a chart showing the time it took to go from one level to the next.

Wow, and to think it took me over ~240 hours to do 1 - 60 in vanilla on Nostalrius a couple years back. It's possible to do it faster but I wanted to take my time and fully complete zones, also I was leveling a warrior which is tough in vanilla.

ESO does questing the best.

The overly casual playerbase in WoW is the biggest tumor that game has going for it. There's two types of people that play WoW: those that actually like video games and those that think they do. There's more the latter than the former.
