Back in high school I made duct tape clothes. So I'm wearing a set of the pants I made, and I and a buddy decide to go visit the Hall. So we look around and as we're getting ready to leave we go to ask the dude at the front desk for a recommendation for a good place to eat near by. Well before we can ask he ask if I stole the pants from the Iggy Pop exhibit, and has someone go check to make sure I didn't.

As someone who has lived near Cincinnati my entire life (assuming that TC is around that area), it really is a shithole. I can't wait to move out of here.

This just keeps getting more and more interesting. Why did you make duct tape clothes? Were they made just out of duct tape? Were they comfortable? How did they get cleaned? Can we get a picture?

It's rural, and it's conservative (in the particularly bad ways). There are a lot of Amish, and Amish are terrible. I'm from Pennsylvania, which is similar, but a lot closer to remotely reasonable places.

I live in southern Ohio and I think its ok. Its a little boring because Ohio is about the most average, middle of the road, nothing great but nothing bad, kind of state.

But Michigan isnt much better. Is it possible that you just lived much closer to the Detroit metro area before and now you live in the middle of nowhere? Might just be your town, not the state that sucks.

-abuse horses and other animals
-run disgusting puppy mills
-have children in school only until age 14
-deny modern medicine in all but the most extreme cases
-order large meals at restaurants, are loud and rowdy customers that make a huge mess
-don't tip
-have a staggeringly high child mortality rate due to lack of safety efforts
-make 6 year old children stand at the edge of a busy road in 40 degree weather waiting for the newspaper
-complain their newspaper is 20 minutes late when it's so icy people have died that morning on the roads
-women must be 100% submissive to their husbands will
-there are cases of husbands trying to have sex with their wives hours after child birth
-those in OH and western PA shun those that leave the faith

The culture is full of human rights abuse. And if you want to escape it, you do so with a poor middle school education and no friends or family to help you establish a new life.

The worst part is that they use the bible to justify their behavior as righteous.

God gave man dominion over beasts. They use that to treat animals however they want, even though the bible actually condemns actual abuse.

The bible tells you to be frugal. They use this as an excuse to be cheap, which is different.

The bible puts the man in charge. They take it too far. Amish actually came out in record numbers to vote against Hillary solely because she was a woman. The last time many of them voted was against Kennedy for being Catholic. It's why PA went red.

And I just hate children being viewed as expendable workers.

I did live in a suburb of Detroit.

It probably is my town, but I don't know... I think a lot of my personal issues cause me to want to get as far away from here as possible. If it weren't for my dad and sister I'd be long gone.

Also, not Amish, but Mennonite (branched off a pretty long time ago, but related). The owner of Shady Maple (an extremely popular and well known tourist destination) deliberately pays women less than men for the same job, even if they've been there longer. The consciously choose to do this. Every few years he gets sued for it, but he'd rather pay the lawsuits than pay women the same as men.

You're not supposed to tip there, but some people do anyway. He has been seen walking around and taking the tips from tables, pocketing them for himself.

He owns over a dozen liquor licenses. He doesn't sell alcohol, but he bids for every license in the area. He just wants to prevent other people from selling alcohol.

He develops land without permits. Sometimes he gets stopped and fined, sometimes he gets away with it.

There s a lot of different vibes in Ohio. I live in Cleveland and its dramatically different than Cincinnati which is also different from Columbus. All of which are way different than rural Ohio.

Personally, I'm not a fan of rural/southern Ohio.

Columbus is definitely the nicest city. Id like to move closer to that area. I dont know exactly where TC lives, but southern Ohio is very much culturally similar to the southern states. Most of the people around here probably have more in common with Kentucky and WV than they do with someone from Columbus, Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, etc.

Huh. I forget how big Ohio is sometimes. I've been here my whole life (35+ years) and that sounds nothing like my state. >_> Up in Northwest Ohio, though. The southern and eastern parts are definitely different.

This just keeps getting more and more interesting. Why did you make duct tape clothes? Were they made just out of duct tape? Were they comfortable? How did they get cleaned? Can we get a picture?

I made the pants for a party, found that I liked doing it and so turned it into a hobby. The first few that I made were just pants covered inside and out with tape cause it's easier, but once they were made I used them as a mold to make just straight tape clothes. Pretty comfortable, but not breathable at all, as for cleaning I used soap and water on a rag, or if it was too stained I'd just tape over it. Don't think I have any pics. If I do come across any I'll post them.
