TV: Episodes
It's a Showtime series that they just released on Netflix. I had watched the first few episodes years ago at my parents house.

The premise is a British couple take their hit show to Hollywood to make an American version. They're forced to work with Matt LeBlanc who is a terrible human being.

Movie: i just watched I Don't Feel at home in this world anymore. it's on netflix. I liked it quite a bit. it's not very long, and it has Elijah Wood in it

TV: recently finished the second season of Dirk Gently (it also stars Elijah Wood, which is how the movie ended up in my recommendations. I really just like Elijah Wood). it's great. I also just watched the first episode of Punisher

Lit: Chuck D's hip-hop history book. it's awesome. full of great stories. it goes chronologically through events leading up to the birth of hip hop, then all the way up to... 2015? 2016? I'm not sure when it stops but it mentioned Kendrick in the preface

Steve Silberman - Neurotribes. a fascinating and illuminating look at the history and future of autism

for fiction, I'm nearly finished The Book Theif. it's an interesting WW2 story of a family hiding a jew in their basement in nazi germany. the narrator is Death, and it has some really interesting ways of portraying their omniscience

Music: I've been listening to a lot of different stuf lately.
David Braid's Piano + String Quartet album Flow. really cool stuff. reminds me a lot of Bartok
a couple different MF DOOM albums - mostly Madvillainy. his lyrics and flow are amazing
Carla Bley's Social Studies - some really interesting arrangement with horns. what makes it really stand out texturally is the presence of both Tuba and Electric Bass
Jacob Collier - In My Room - awesome, intricate, accessible arrangements of some popular songs and some originals. Collier is a pretty incredible musician - I've seen him live, and he runs around the stage playing bass, drums, guitar, various auxiliary percussion, keyboards, and the Harmonizer, an instrument made for him by people at MIT that lets him harmonize his voice in real time. he plays all the instruments and sings all tbe parts on the album.
Trombone Shorty - Parking Lot Symphony - awesome, accessible, energetic new-orleans funk.
Hiromi and Edmar Castaneda - Live in Montreal - I saw this show back in late June and it was probably the best concert I've ever seen. Piano + Harp duet. for reference, they got a standing ovation like 2 songs into the set. the recording is great too

I enjoyed this as well. Melanie Lynskey is fantastic in it; I don't think she gets enough starring roles. I love her in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures.
