What do you think of the cult, its creed, and their mass suicide that took place in 1997?

I think it was a tragedy that's both strange and scary for some reason. I say "strange" because the creed was like something out of cheesy science fiction. Scary because they chose to suicide and some of the beliefs are scary, too.

But I also read in the newspaper today that these people felt distanced from the world around them and perhaps they really just wanted a way out....
