Rygar is fairly well known, but most people I talk to haven't even heard of Magic of Scheherazade. It's pretty fun. Plays a lot like Legend of Zelda.

I always liked Crystalis and Faxanadu, but there's some unpopular games I find great, such as 8 Eyes (multiplayer only) and Castle Quest (which satisfies all my gaming needs, if only there was a new version)

Legacy of the Wizard, great game. Somehow doesn't make Metroidvania lists since you can buy your progression items if you want to.
