I only bought the season 11 DVD for a handful of episodes like Behind the Laughter.
EDIT: And the hilarious thing? I watched the commentary of the horrible horse jockey episode, and it was, legit, the first time Matt Groening had ever seen the episode. Of course, he ignorantly giggles through the whole thing, but refused to sit in for Principal and the Pauper during season 9.

Sad!

(not that I think Principal and the Pauper is a good episode by any means, but...ffs, some of the utter SHIT from season 14 makes it look good)

i skip the first couple seasons cause the art is awful and still freaks me out.

4 through 8, maybe a little of 3. The only ep in those seasons I always skip is Homer's Triple Bypass - the first time I watched that was when my own father was having potentially fatal heart issues, and it hit way too close to home.

9 is the last full season I watch, then I pick very scattered episodes from 10 - 13.

14 and beyond blurs together for me to the point that I'd have to use a list of "best post golden age Simpsons episodes" or something to pick any out... and I'm not sure I'd even bother.

I'd just watch whatever episodes I felt like watching. I don't really know the series by season, I just kind of watched whatever episodes happened to be on tv. The last episode I saw was probably from season 15 or 16?

I've actually been doing this right now to see if I can pinpoint the exact moment when it starts to suck too much to watch.

At 10 at the moment and, while it's clearly in decline, it's still watchable. 5-8 we're the peak for me. I'm predicting I'll find it somewhere in 10 or 11

I put off watching S9 & S10 for a while because of what I'd heard from other people, but when I finally got around to them I was surprised at how solid most of the episodes were. I mean, they're certainly not on the same level as seasons 3-8 & there's some minor noticeable flaws in the pacing & how the episodes would wrap themselves up, but I don't understand the people who say that they're skippable.

Agreed. There are a few lame episodes for sure (that infamous one with the fake Skinner), but I'm still enjoying them for the most part.

Honestly, the only episodes of seasons 9 & 10 that I'd say I didn't like were The Principal and the Pauper & Viva Ned Flanders (All Singing, All Dancing doesn't count since it's a clip show imo).

I'd also say, after looking at all the episodes from the two seasons on IMDB, that I'd consider the following episodes to be on the same level of quality as seasons 3-8:
The City of New York vs Homer Simpson
The Cartridge Family
The Joy of Sect
Das Bus
Trash of the Titans
The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace (even if the ending felt kind of... abrupt)
Also the two Treehouse of Horror episodes.
