Yes. Before dating sites became more mainstream I'd frequent Digichat sites in my teens. The main reason was to just chat to folk however over the course of time I got to know some folk more, added them to MSN and talked with them frequently on webcam and mic. It became "online dating" with the main goal to eventually meet. This never materialised though for one reason or another so it was indeed pointless.

Maybe one day I'll go down the official dating sites route but I think dating websites are becoming more harder than just going to a bar/club and just talking to folk due to how many folk now use them. Obviously nothing stops you doing both though.

Lording over someone who isn't responding to you isn't really "effort", it's just desperate.

So I leave one-sentence blurbs to interesting girls in order to get a dialogue going and if I don't get a response, I just drop it. Unfortunately, I have had to drop a shitton of connections.

Yes, I have. As an ugly person, I was far less likely to get responses to girls whom I've sent messages to. Although, I cannot say that I very much liked the general populace of the dating site that I've frequented thus far. So many of these girls just enjoy taking pictures of themselves and attaching doggy ears and noses to their faces that just make me think, "No, go away". And some of them purse their lips so that they look just unattractive, in general. Most of these people's profiles are blank, or contain information that make me think that I'm not right for them. But what I deplore most of all in these goddamn "descriptions" is what some of these girls put in the "About Me" section. "Just ask!" Like how the hell am I supposed to talk to them if I don't know a damn thing about them? I could be talking about anything that I think they might be knowledgeable in, and chances would be very, very slim that they would not know what I'm talking about. And after I "ask them" something, they go like, "...", and holy hell it was just such a dissatisfying experience for me that I quit the website. Their text-speak can go to hell, and their stupid "emoji" can go to hell. I swear to god, they just put "just ask" in their profile to lure out anyone, and they'd only respond if the bloke was some adonis. Either that, or more likely, they want me to flirt with them. And it just isn't in me to do that. I don't want to do anything like that, ever. Trying to find a date is really tiring for me, I still live with my mother, and there's really no chance in hell of finding someone until I get my own place. I don't even have a degree yet, nor have I any sort of start in my career. There's really no reason for me to be trying to find someone at the mo'. I'm not even closed to being settled in life, so there's really no point in bothering.

eclair you seem pretty specific for what you're looking for. have you ever tried the website/app meetup? it's not a dating site but it's a site for you to see and create meetups for likeminded people in your area over a common hobby. you may want to see if there are any groups on there where you may be able to meet women naturally that have similar interests as you but it's more organic because it all starts platonically as just people hanging out.

I didn't really enjoy attending sessions with the last therapist who tried to talk to me about my lack of self-esteem. I don't feel uncomfortable telling myself that I'm ugly or have a really off-putting personality, anyway. I'm convinced that all I need to do is get over myself and try to have a conversation with some bloke before class lasting more than ten seconds. Besides, I feel like if a therapist did want to address my life issues, they'd have to talk to me to get to know me well enough to gain some perspective on the sources of my behaviors. I really don't think they'd understand, anyway, if I told them about my really personal issues.

Didn't care for it. I prefer spontaneity when meeting girls. I met my gf of 8 years on a cruise. We lived 35 minutes apart but were traveling 2000 miles and met by chance. Online dating always had the awkward first meet and ended up disappointing me when I actually met them. Only did it a couple times. Tinder didn't exist, I did ok cupid

well maybe you could make time to try it once and see if you like it? 30-40 minutes isn't really that bad on public transportation. and a lot of the events are hours. there are like anime meet ups or video game meet ups. card game meet ups like mtg. obviously i don't know your area though so i can't be for sure that you live in an accessible area. i would just say maybe just try it once and if you hate it you don't have to try again. it's only a couple hours of your time at most if you don't like it.
