I figured I'd though the 5k at one of the two. If I go with lasik I'll pay off the credit debit in about 3 months anyway

Pay off 1/3 of CC debit, then keep finding other things to spend money on than lasik.

Get debt-free first. That should be your #1 priority.

Not requiring glasses is a luxury. One you've lived without your whole life so far. Don't waste your money until you have money to waste.

Not really enough info to give a great response. That said, I believe one of the downsides of lasik is that it takes more time for night vision to adapt, so a potential benefit of reducing debt now and doing lasik later is that daytime hours will be longer.

I'd get rid of the debt if able. Lasik can wait.

That's not very much, real easy to let happen.

I'm right around $10,000 myself today and was at $15,000 a year ago.

Not necessarily. Vision worsens as we get older. Lasik is far from a waste of money.

He's talking about a matter of months, maybe a year or two at most. Not decades.

Pay off the debt. It's not even a legitimate question, tbh.

Maybe you shouldn't buy things you can't afford.

That's the point of credit cards! If we could only spend money that we had at the moment, it'd be a very different world.

How often do you get new glasses? It's one of those costs that can make Lasik pay for itself if you do it early enough and break / lose enough pairs.

At an extremely rough estimate, carrying $5000 of extra debt for three additional months at a 20% annual interest rate will cost ~$250-$300 extra. Changes in LASIK pricing could certainly outweigh that, and that figure is low enough that replacement glasses costs could easily be significant.

Considerations like that are part of what I had in mind when I said we didn't have enough data to give proper advice.
