...selling a digital copy of yourself. The copy will be you: your every thought and memory and feeling and opinion. This copy will be used in a service which rents these digital people out to prospective customers. Customers enter into a VR simulation which they control entirely and are allowed to do whatever they want with your copy. If they want you to be a woman accompanying them on a midnight cruise, then your copy's body becomes a woman and the simulation is a fancy yacht. If they want to see what happens to a person who lives a thousand years (from your copy's perspective) of being roasted alive, they can do it. If they want to turn you into a tentacle monster and themselves into the naughty Japanese woman, they can do that too.

Your copy will not require rest. It will be awake and aware until it is deleted or shut off. Even if there's no customer, it'll exist by itself in a blank white void until the next person rents it. It will also have free will and can deny a customer's request, but the customer is completely within their rights to torture the copy until they give in.

You yourself in no way experience this. You just give a small cheek swab, take the money, and just have to live with the idea that a version of you is being tortured at any moment.

Deal. Honestly it's something that wouldn't really bother me. If I think about it sure but I'm pretty sure I won't think about it unless someone brings it to my attention in which case I'll just shrug it off.

Not its personality (aside from how you can already alter it). Its your mind and its form is at the whim of the customers. If there's no customer, it defaults back to your appearance.

Actually, I think I'm proving the exact opposite. If someone copies my image, I don't think it's me simply because it looks like me by default.

But can it ever be me without actually existing? You can program a computer to talk like you, to have your memories, and to process information like you, but that doesn't mean that you and the computer are the same being.

Okay, well basically, I don't think a computer program can emulate a human being to a degree where it is no longer simply a computer program, especially when said program is given extraordinary abilities I do not have.

If i knew beyond a doubt it was sentient, no.

I find cruelty absolutely abhorrent, and that's the aspect of humanity i'm most likely exposing the copy to by agreeing to something like this.

Add to that i'm pretty happy with my life, and as useful as that amount of money might be, i could more easily live without it than live with my conscience if i took the deal.
