For my ranking, I've decided to go with the top 25.

As for what was under consideration, I've decided not to include the 8-bit versions just to eliminate clutter. If people want me to, I guess I could do a separate list for those, but for the most part, it's just gonna be the same as the main list's versions.

As for what to expect, I am a man that enjoys melodic, catchy tunes that I can listen to outside of actually playing the game. A lot of times after playing a great game, I'll put 1 or 2 of my favorite songs on my phone so I can listen to at work to remind me of how fun that game was. Well, part of the reason for me wanting to do this ranking in the first place is that I've ended up with TWELVE Mario Odyssey songs on my phone. This soundtrack overall is superb. Every song on this list (and probably half of the songs not on this list) is something I could tap my foot to and enjoy.

With that, let's get to some of the songs that almost made it.....

Honorable Mention: Shop
You know a soundtrack is great when a few little jingles playing over an intercom while you go into a building for 20 seconds at a time are catchy enough for you to remember.

Honorable mentions are like the "you tried" trophy of my rankings. "You tried" isn't enough to warrant a song link.

Honorable Mention: Cookatiel Battle
It certainly fits the mood of fighting a cross-eyed bird that vomits soup at you as an attack, but it's not something I would want to listen to outside of the boss fight.

Honorable Mention: Forgotten Isle 2
This should probably be a dishonorable mention, considering it's the only Kingdom track to not make the list. I'm not a fan of the tribal theme it has going. Not a great melody by any means.

Honorable Mention: Bowser Battle 1
I was honestly kinda surprised this winded up outside the list, but it's a bit too monotonous for my liking. This one isn't so much because it's bad, it's more that everything else is just too good.

Final Honorable Mentions: Most of the mini-world songs
This batch includes Another World, Run Jump Throw!, Caves, etc. Once again, I thought most of these songs were fine, but none of them are truly memorable, outside of a lone track that will be seen later.

25. Mount Volbono: Town
I can smell pasta just by listening to this song. This has to be the most Italian video game song in existence.

Okay so maybe people will not like this ranking. There are still plenty of captures left that don't really do much, and Sherm actually does quite a bit. Here is the thing though, it has the worst control scheme ever. WHY IS SHOOT AND AIM BOTH ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CONTROLLER BUT NOT USING A SHOULDER BUTTON!? Also the motion controls trigger so your aim is awful anyway.

24. Torkdrift Battle
What a weird song for a Mario game, but I like it a lot. It feels like this should be a Metal Gear boss theme. If someone wants to rank bosses or something, they should totally do so, but while I'm personally on this subject...... DO NOT MESS WITH ME, BIPED.

I simply turned motion controls in the settings to aim better. Another problem seems to be the rather high sensitivity of the aiming icon. I find it rather difficult to move the aiming icon into the right spot to make my shots go where they're supposed to go. Even adjusting the sensitivity options (through the Camera Sensitivity option) and setting it to "Very Low", it's still difficult to aim properly.

I didn't hear this song until I was finishing up the Snow Kingdom and it kinda blindsided me. Good nostalgic song, with a great remix. All that said, it's not something you want to listen to for an extended period of time, considering the main melody is like 20 seconds long.

Does even less to threaten you than the early boss that introduces capturing in battles, but that doesn't stop its phases from dragging on way too long. Its design is pretty bad, worse than some of the broodals even.

The song is cool for the silly mood it's trying to set, but considering the fact that a vastly superior version exists, there's no real reason to listen to this song over that. I still like it, though.

Making him act so strange was probably meant to give him charm or something, but it didn't stop him from still being really boring. Same with his fights, just not as bad as Cookatiel I guess.

Another pretty dull rabbit boss. Might actually be the least interesting of the five, but at least you can end his fights quickly. I wish I had more to say about these guys but they are just so boring.

19. Peach's Castle

The Mushroom Kingdom is already perfect nostalgia on its own, but when coupled with a fully orchestrated remake of the castle theme, it legit gave me chills. When I saw the first painting, I squealed like a little kid and made the BABABA BA BA BAH noises as I jumped in, only for them to actually happen. There were few moments in gaming this year that made me feel quite as giddy as Mushroom Kingdom in general, and a lot of that had to do with the existence of this song. This is easily the song most affected by the atmosphere it helps set on this list.
