Like, you arent even an adult and you go to school ~35 hours a week and then they expect you come home and work more hours to get even more school work done? Like why the fuck am I going to school for all this time to begin with if Im just have guaranteed take home work? Thank god I dont have to put up with this anymore, I just feel bad for my niece...

I do think colleges can be strangely bitchy about it, though.

IMO college should be what you make of it. What you get out of it is what you put in. So homework should be more of an ancillary part of the classroom experience (important but ultimately supplemental), with stuff like projects and applied knowledge work being the bulk of the grading.

College is ok imo because at least youre over 18 and personally chose to get into college and you also dont have classes everyday. Im more pissed off for the kids in elementary, middle school and even high school to an extent

It's to indoctrinate you into modern work life where you're expected to work overtime.

The only thing I think is kids maybe need less homework (and if theres an overarching project due, keep homework to a minimum while teaching to the project). The elimination of homework entirely is unrealistic if you want to give kids a solid education that focuses on information retention.

Or you make a unique lesson plan that is actually fun and engaging for students instead of expecting them to care about packets.

The French are planning to end homework in school once and for all. Lot of schools there already dont give homework. Weve just been indoctrinated to think thats how kids can learn, but theres certainly more effective methods that doesnt take away as much time from their childhoods

Everything in life is like prison.

Everyone cliques up and breeds rivalries and ill sentiments when caged up together for hours at a time.

Going to college is the most liberating time in your life.

I think thats a matter of opinion, given how highly rated the Japanese education system is.

Though the amount of self-hatred and depression in their culture may also be related.

Like what? How else do you learn genuinely challenging concepts, if not by actually thinking, writing, and reading about them a lot?

I dunno but theres countries doing it. And its not like the French for instance produce dumb kids. I would love to see how they do it over there tbh

I'm going to bet they do this weird thing where what is taught is taught directly, by a teacher, and not through packets and standardized testing.

Standardized testing is something good that got jacked up by misinterpretation by school systems becoming obsessed with them.

Speaking of the Japanese education system, my step dad was saying how they have an hour set aside each day to clean the place. Like students are assigned different tasks to keep the school all pretty. I would support that practice in American schools. Our kids need the disciprine. Plus the schools are filthy because the kids don't give a fuck and just mess them up.

Straight up BS because it was hardly aimed as a benefit, despite it being a benefit if done right. It was just OCD level shit teachers had where they had to make sure you went home and put even more work into school. It was absolutely insane how some of my teachers acted. You'd think they were mentally deranged.

I remember one motherfucker used to make us do 50 Earth Science Regents questions a week, showing 10 everyday. Which is fine. Except the psycho made you write every question and every answer in full. What purpose did that serve? Another for American History expected a 50 page outline every two weeks. This was all more work than I ever did in college.
