I think being an interconnected universe helps them. Gives each movie a "have to see" quality. And they built it up so well, from the first movie with that post credit scene announcing the Avengers. Shit's been lit ever since.

The acting and directing are mostly good and they're not ashamed to be what they are. For the most part, they don't pretend to be character studies or crime dramas. They have elements of both, but they also embrace the action and imagination which first drew people to these stories decades ago.

Superheroes are cultural icons and the flashiness associated with them sells across generations. Plus the fact that the concept of a cinematic universe was a fairly fresh idea at the time.

A combination of superhero movies being big business and also having a broadly appealing style. Nearly anyone can enjoy them. Even if you're not overly interested in superheroes you'll probably like the humor and characters anyway.

after decades of just seeing isolated super heroes on the screen, we finally got a connected world that simulates what it's like in the comics with everyone coexisting. I don't know about everyone else but that's what I like. I always hated how in movies the hero was the only one in the world. having a whole world is cool.

frankly I am confused why disney did this for marvel but then didn't use the same plan for Star Wars. I am not one of the ones who HATED Last Jedi but.....it does bug me that they swapped directors for no reason. and seem to be making up the story as they go
