Board 8 > Apparently a big European Smash 4/Melee contest is going on right where I live

Literally 5 minutes away on foot from my apartment, so I went down to watch.

Learned that it's called Valhalla and it's all new, but very likely to be a thing every year considered European major from now on.

I personally only recognize Armada and Leffen among the players here, but there are other big European players it seems.

Top 8 is starting soonish for both Smash 4 and Melee. Right now they're playing losers brackets it seems.

Found a twitch stream of anyone cares. I'm visible in the crowd when the camera is on the players, but I doubt anyone here would recogzine at distance lol.

I saw three people had set up Brawl for fun at one of the tvs here, but it's not in the tournament, no, so yeah lol Brawl. No 64 either.

Melee is significantly bigger than Smash 4 too. About 90 people in the Smash 4 tourney, 170 something in the Melee tourney.

Brawl is sometimes used as a side event but yeah it's almost all Melee and Smash 4. Even the first Smash Bros for N64 gets more events than Brawl, though it's still much less than the other two.

I learned that the favorite at this toruney (Smash 4), is a worldwide fan favorite. Gluttony.

Had a blast with Smash 4. The ranked 3rd best Danish player had a dream run through losers bracket ending up in 4th overall.

Melee top 8 just startes. Definitely bigger names here.

For some reason Melee is with 4 stocks while Smash 4 was only 2. Faster play I suppose.

That's awesome. I've played in quite a few tournaments but never been to a major.

Melee might be higher leveled players, but it's a lot less exciting who wins every match than Smash 4 was.

I guess you're right. Gluttony being the biggest name is not really major status for Smash 4. I don't know much about the European scene in general though. Armada vs. Leffen sounds like the standard.

Gluttony is the only name I even recognized from Smash 4 haha. I don't really like him as a player because I think his main character is boring, but overall I'd say he's pretty popular yeah.

Europe unfortunately doesn't have many Smash 4 players who are widely known in the US, though I'm sure some people who pay more attention than I do would recognize a few more names.

Gluttony is apparently only second best in France lol, but they had made an effort to make him come here.

I'd assume it is, but I'm not too into it. I knew Armada was best, only knew Leffen was near top. I know the big names when I hear them, but remember only a very few myself.

Leffen completely destroyed Armada. 6-0 if you can call it that, it was never really close. That's despite losing to him big time 3-0 in winners finals. Fun times!

There's definitely something about watching Smash live with a crowd!
