Servers physically powered on and responding to Rockstar's healthchecks.

Actual games broke / sketchy at best. Obvious spike of brokenness on intel patch application.

that's just the number of people who went out of their way to downdetector to complain on that website.

If I head to the PS4 board I see 4600 pages of topics at 50/50. That doesn't mean only 230,000 people are playing PS4.

AMD were affected as well. Meltdown was specifically Intel, but Spectre affects pretty much every modern CPU including AMD and ARM. The issue is a fundamental flaw with how all CPUs handle instructions and they were specifically designed that way to increase speed. Any fix for this reduces CPU speed by an order of magnitude

I dont know why the intel executive management team is in any way related

That's the problem, no? AMD processors' selling point was that they offered more cores and threads, and therefore better processing speed for multitasking. Intel, conversely, offered better single-tasking processors. These were the grounds on which they competed, and why both architectures are distinct, yet at the same time, despite their differences, both are critically vulnerable.

Intel and AMD have been racing to dominate each other for many years. Both companies wanted to leverage these strengths to outcompete the other, and they wanted to do it quickly. That is not a situation which is conducive to extensive security testing.

Every cpu manufacturer has had the same flaw for 2 decades, this isnt a "management sucks" scenario. Of course intel and amd care about security

AMD is reporting a negligible performance impact on fixing Spectre. So while it affects others it does not affect them equally.

I don't know about that. It took a decade after the fact for Meltdown's discovery, and it wasn't discovered internally by Intel, but by a researcher from Google.

Oh, youre right. That proves every single cpu manufacturer doesnt care about security. Not only that, but fuck intel specifically

I don't know if that proves anything, but does it cast doubt on Intel's internal testing? Probably.

No matter how good their internal testing is, there are going to be some bugs. Especially when you're dealing with really weird vulnerabilities like these.

Not particularly. They arent gods or wizards. Mistakes happen. Every cpu manufacturer made the same mistake and it went unnoticed for over 20 years. It makes no sense to shit on intel just because. Its not like this vulberability was out in the open screaming for attention
