The other models have really sort of evolved outside of JUST fitness. Or at least "fitness" in the sense of someone who work outs a lot, etc.

i think they're for people who think they're working out just by getting out of their chair for a little bit and being proud about it as if that's something to aspire to

Exactly. the majority of people i know who use them just use them to count steps and track sleeping patterns (for some reason)...which is fine. So i can fully understand why Fitbit would want to make a new model to move away from that crowd and once again obtain the full on workout crowd. I feel like they've been losing the latter crowd.
