tl;dr: BGE is giving $82 million to BGE customers.

For reference since the article didn't share it: Excelon (parent company) pretax profit in 2016 was 3.1 billion. Estimated gain from tax bill: 434 million. BGE is about a tenth of their customer base, so potentially all of the BGE-region tax benefits are being given to customers, along with some in other areas.

What I'm curious about, as a BGE customer, is 'why us?'

It does not affect me personally, of course- they're lowering power rates, not their fee to be on the grid. As a solar household, I only pay their flat fee to be on the grid, so their decision has reduced the value of my solar investment.

Which is okay: I don't need the money.

I applaud their choice. Many are over-eager to pat WF and BoA on the back; these companies are handing a tiny fraction of their profits to their workers/customers; the lion's share is still going to shareholders. Excelon deserves credit, especially if they follow this up with other customers.
