I like various African and Native American mythologies.

but as far as major ones go, I think stuff related to Hinduism are pretty cool.

As far as intricacy and depth, probably Norse.

And I am pretty damn sure Hinduism easily has the most text linked to its mythologies. Just look up the lengths of some of their epics.

Important to note just how much Greek mythology is boosted by the talent of its ancient writers. I mean, they got Homer FFS.

They're not really even gods. You have Aesir, Vanir, and Giants. These words were loosely translated to Gods by interpreters but the context doesn't seem to imply that. I'm not really sure what an accurate translation would be, but the texts read as though they have more in common with X-Men than polytheistic gods.

Clever? Just mentioning some popular modem mythologies. I'm sure the Egyptians genuinely thought their myths were true in their time too. It's interesting how history keeps repeating itself in all cultures.

Celtic Mythology, specifically Irish Mythology, is also super intriguing as Im Irish, and those were the stories I was told at bedtime.

Cool. I don't think that. How are billions going to break this pattern of belief in mythology at the drop of a hat? That would be a ridiculous expectation on my part. Also, coming out as an atheist would have probably gotten people shunned/executed for the majority of human history, so they thought that quietly if they did.

What makes Christianity or Islam or Hinduism any different than some old religion? As a Christian, you think Islam and Hinduism are false, no? How do you think they feel that you think that? I'm being logically consistent as an outsider by treating all religions equally false. That was the reasonable conclusion I reached. Is your issue with what I think or the fact that I openly share it?

You're an atheist and I can respect that. I have no problem with you believing that I'm wrong. As the largest system of belief accounts for roughly 30% of the world's population, 70% or more must be wrong no matter who is right.

The argument over who's right and who's wrong is not what I take exception to. What I take exception to is your immature attempt at cutting down others for believing differently from yourself; especially now that you've predicated your argument on a fallacy rather than scientific reasoning.

You say that all religions must be false since they cannot all be true. Try applying that logic to a courtroom. The incompatibility of differing arguments is inherent. It's not enough to assume that all are false.

That's not to say that you should give religion a chance. You do what works for you. But you really shouldn't act derisive toward others; especially with such a weak premise for why you feel all religion must be inherently false.

Norse. I generally go to that when I feel like praying or need some inspiration or something. I think a lot of people get the whole idea of it wrong. People assume it's a religion entirely about war and death, but that's not it at all. It's a mythology about pushing forward and surviving no matter what. Even if you are destined to die trying, you should keep fighting.

People tend to associate it entirely with the Vikings, but that was just one small segment of the Norse people. On top of that, the Vikings have largely been demonized in history, and people tend to forget that the whole raping, pillaging, and plundering thing ended about halfway through the Viking Age and ended up pretty much setting up Europe.

The mythology itself has been completely (and hilariously) dampened by its association with racist movements. That is entirely hilarious because the Norse beliefs are hugely anti-racist. The entire principle pantheon is actually made of two different races; the Aesir (gods of concepts like war, love, music, etc) and the Vanir (gods of nature, the ocean, etc). The battle between the Aesir and the Vanir ended because they put their differences aside and combined their families. There are even several giants among the 'heroes', who are literally the sworn enemies of the gods.

The funny part is that even the people who held the Norse belief were pretty anti-racist as a whole. The Vikings spread to Ireland, Russia, France, Britain, and Scotland, where the immediately adopted the local beliefs and mixed with them liberally. It's pretty much the antithesis to the motherfuckers like Sons of Odin who are trying to turn away immigrants and 'defend' white neighborhoods. The Norse belief teaches that pretty much anyone who is a survivor or a bad ass motherfucker should be welcomed and put to work on your side.
