Extended editions ofc, and the trilogy as a whole

I'm rewatching them for the first time since my childhood. On disc 2 of Two Towers rn, more intense than Fellowship but also feels like less watchable as a standalone film; it's apparent that the trilogy is meant to be viewed as one super long piece, and imo it's all the more impressive for that.

They were filmed at the same time

Bad_Mojo posted...
Isn't it one movie?

See above, if a 10 hour movie could be released it probably would have been. But with all the complications it would bring, the studio would also make far less money on one mammoth film than a blockbuster trilogy.

Exactly.

If they weren't there would have been much bigger gaps in the release dates. They definitely wouldn't be able to release them yearly like they did.

I actually like The Two Towers the best, although Fellowship Ill concede has some better individual scenes. I dont like Return of the King as much...but some of that has to do with stuff they left out from the book that irks me.

Also the Hobbit stuff shouldve been condensed into 1 movie and done...better. Because the source material is great, thats not the issue.

There's a great behind the scenes of the hobbit trilogy that's basically jackson and the whole crew being like "we had no time to plan and no idea what we were doing"

Persbrandt played Beorn in the Hobbit trilogy.
He was supposed to appear in the first movie when it was still planned to only be two movies, but once Jackson decided to make three movies, he was cut from the first.
When An Unexpected Journey was released, Jackson and the other actors praised Persbrandt, and Jackson said that Persbrandt would fly down to New Zealand to record more scenes for the second and third movie, claiming that Beorn was one of the characters that would be expanded in the two next movies.
What a liar.

I heard he was cut because he was so difficult to work with? I just automatically assumed it was true because it fits very well with what everyone knows of Persbrandt.

The Hobbit fs dont deserve to be anywhere near the LotR trilogy. Which is a huge shame because I found The Hobbit book more entertaining that the LotR trilogy due to better pacing.

Anyway, RotK > TT > FotR for me, but theyre basically even.

On my first viewing it was TT>Fotr>Roti

Honestly I see this trilogy as a perfect set of movies.

Hey! I'm saying that I heard it and didn't question it! I'm not arguing with you, because you seem to know more about this than me. Heck, I don't even know where I heard it. I'm not gonna defend this rumor, I merely aired it to see if you (someone more knowledgeable) knew if there was any truth to it.

Yeah who needs character development and worldbuilding, right? Theatrical cuts make better "popcorn flicks", but the extended editions make for a better adaptation and more ambitious film.

I'd rather have no world building and character development than bad world building and character development.

We didn't need 40 more minutes of ents being slow in Two Towers.

We get it.

however, i prefer the theatrical versions of the other two. they're all great films tho in either form. after watching the extended ones exclusively, revisiting the theatrical versions was fun because they're just so damn fast paced. fotr and ttt really crack along

Two Towers.

Return and Fellowship are near masterpieces. Two Towers is just slightly below that level. Helms Deep is great though. And Sam's speech at the end of Two Towers hits you in the feels hard.

idr if I already said this and I can't be assed to reread my posts but TTT suffers mainly because it's legit just the middle of a movie. When viewing them as a single piece it works fine imo, but as individual films TTT doesn't really introduce or resolve much on its own.
