I dont understand why they didnt go for 2 there. Wouldnt you rather be down 4 so if they hit a fg you can tie with a touchdown?

Only reason I remembered he was was that Carolina played him for a second earlier this season and he threw an interception. Not sure what game it was.

I heard someone listening to the radio around 10 this morning. It was like 3 MWCs all on the radio at the same time. Some kind of bizarro nightmare world.

I'd say roughly 5 of the 10 minutes I heard were 3 guys constantly whining in increasingly loud voices that the NFL blew the game by not challenging and overturning the play where Mariota's forward progress was (in my opinion properly) called stopped, thereby preventing the later fumble and also making it unchallengeable.

It wasn't the forward progress call that upset them, it was that the play wasn't reviewed, and it was about 5 consecutive minutes of harping on this one point on repeat. So basically none of these 3 guys had any idea of a pretty basic NFL rule that most fans by now know.

It seriously doesn't take much to get on the radio these days huh.

P.S. I thought in live action that the whistles were blowing so obviously and for so long before Mariota even got thrown down to the ground that there was an argument for giving KC a penalty on that play, though it would've been after the play and the 2-point try still would've failed.

Bears hire Nagy to be head coach.

I'm just at the point now where everything they do I assume will turn out terribly, but at the same time he basically has to be better than the last two guys.

They were probably talking about the TD, not the 2 point conversion.

I was at the game and couldn't hear the whistle from the stands, but I went back and watched that play later and it was super obvious that the ref was blowing the whistle, and him running toward them with his hand up in the air was even visible in the shot, while he was getting tackled.

I was listening to the unbiased Around the NFL podcast on the NFL website, and they said that the officiating crew completely blew 5 or 6 calls over the course of the game, but the only one I even disagree with that whole game was the play before the first half two-minute warning where Derrick Johnson blew up Mariota and it showed that he fumbled on the way down. And I guess the reason that it wasn't reviewable was because they had called forward progress then. I mean, it was one motion of him getting hit and him hitting the ground. If you can't get a sack-fumble on that kind of hit, how is a sack-fumble even possible with those rules?

sorry Meow i like you but you are flat out wrong this time. he wasn't trying to go forward. there wasn't any delay where he was touched and still standing around. he was hit, on the ground immediately, and the ball came out. if that isn't a sack fumble then there hasn't been a sack fumble in the history of the NFL.

oh wait, after reading MSG's post, i might have been thinking of a different play? were there two times Mariota was called down on forward progress and fumbled? i didn't watch much of the game.

yeah, he fumbled on the two-point attempt near the end, but it was after he had been dragged backwards about 20 yards

ok yeah i looked it up and that one makes sense being called forward progress. that's kinda weird, happening twice in the same game like that.
